    The new Nexus 7 4G

Hi to all those budding phone experts out there.

I for one couldn't give a sh9t about mobile phones but I am going to commit myself to the new Nexus. One I am a computer nut and I like technology even those the contradiction is I hate phones. The question I have is can I put my current sim in the new 4G Nexus and use it as my phone on my current plan.

My current plan is with Vodaphone and I love it because I don't use my phone unless it's an emergency and my plan is no longer available which is a cent a second with no flagfall.

My monthly bill can be $0.00 in a bad month I could pay $5.00 so you can see why I don't want to change.

I'm confused with phone terminology, this Nexus is on LTE/4G. If I can't use my sim I'll save $100 and buy the next model down and keep my old Nokia.

    Thanks in advance.

Probably the most important thing is that the Nexus 7 isn't a phone. It's a tablet.

You can install apps to make it a phone but that will be voip based.

With the tablet when I saw the 4G thingy I was wondering if it had the phone capability. I don't think I like the voip idea as I doubt that my plan will include data as it's that old data wasn't around when I signed up. Correct me if I'm wrong but voice over ip will use data to send.

Thanks Topdog for that info which hadn't cross my mind. So if it not like the conventional phone I may as well say the $100 bucks.

        Correct.

Why are you wanting the Nexus if you don't have data on your plan? The advantage of the latest phones over the Nokia are internet based applications.

Nexus 7 has good reports on it's GPS chip and I do a bit of 4 wheel driving and I can get off road maps for Android plus I use the tablet for other applications. I had a 10" tablet with no GPS chip and would be to big in the car. 7" seems a nice size. WiFi will be ok to pre load the maps and other apps as I need them. I was just going up one level if the phone part worked so I didn't need to take my phone and tablet on trips.

            Fair enough.

This one is probably more expensive but is 7" and is both a tablet and phone

Thanks gogriff, it's actually cheaper. I'll look into it.

The thank-you both for helping me out.

For all technical matters, I usually go on the Whirlpool forums.

here they are discussing the Nexus 7 4G, including data plans if you want to go down that route.

Thanks BAD, there's a lot to take in. At least I now know the Nexus is not the phone side I was after.
As mentioned I want to keep my old de-funked plan because I only use a phone as a phone and I'll use WiFi for data.
Time to do some more research.

How about a padphone like the newly released one from Asus - see here

I have glanced at the thread title without opening he thread about a hundred times and thought the thread was about a new car!
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
