Tough thread, might as well ask for best producers too?!?
It's up to writers and actors mainly in my mind. If best includes behaviour, Polanski and Woody Allen should not be mentioned (like brownlow rules).

He's not a great actor and his list of movies he's directed to this point is quite short, but Ben Affleck looks like he could be the director of his generation.
