    ESPN 30 for 30

Just watched a jaw dropping 30 for 30 titled broke.
Basically a story on pro US sportsman and their financial failings.
One stat I found disturbing was around 70 odd percent of NFL players file for bankruptcy 2 years after retiring!
Mike Tyson blew 400 million! Sanchez-Vicario's parents ripped her off for the tune of 60 million!
Evander Hollyfield had a home with not one, but two bowling alleys
One story was an ex NFL player visiting a financial adviser to talk about his "portfolio".
The only issue was he hadn't one dime to his name!!

WTF? How do you piss way 400 mil.

I remember that Sanchez-Vicarious thing. Rotten bludgers.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I've seen this one before, pretty eye opening. A mix of hangers on, predatory women, parasitic family members, and a desperation appear rich to everyone they see (born out of insecurity) means they start with nothing and finish with nothing.

The most disturbing part was a huge percentage of players aren't just broke 2 years after their careers end, they're broke between seasons. Just incredible.

...and investing in businesses they know next to nothing about.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

I forgot one Baseballer got an invoice from his parents saying he owed them 25,000 for raising him.

Only 25k, they should have done a better job...

That's one thing with education to our clubs kids, I hope there is plenty of it. The breakdown between some recent players seems like a good reminder that for whatever reason some ventures won't work. And investing money with friends or family has the propensity to ruin relationships.

The thing about money is you need to appreciate not having it, (personally speaking) because not having it lends perspective and motivates you to make the best decisions you can. And finding a trustworthy accountant when needed.
