What bands did you see live before they really made it?

Watching the INXS interviews and the better half is regaling her youth going to 3XY concerts and seeing them before 'they made it'. Sounds pretty cool some of the old venues and seeing them before the world caught on. Most Aussie bands I saw a little later on never really kicked on to anything, the Foo Fighters toured late 90's as a small(er) act, but they were always going to make it big.

Anyone seen an act in the day before everyone caught on, or a band that some how didn't kick on? And where?

I saw Cold Chisel play in pubs when they were huge. How do I count that?

I saw Spiderbait's first show in Melbourne. Sunday afternoon in a pub in Richmond. They did a cover of Ace Of Spades almost as good as the original.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Chisel were always huge weren't they? Which pub/s?
When was the spiderbait show, I think I first saw them around 97 and loved them live. I liked Grinspoon live too around that time.

I saw the Wiggles at St.Albans Footy Ground. Not sure how many years ago but before they were famous.

Was that as the wiggles, or their rock band before the start?

I saw The Screaming Jets before they were big. Playing out the back of a shopping centre

I saw Cold Chisel play as Barking Spiders or Lime Spiders (don't really remember), but they were well known as Chisel by then.

I saw Mark Lizotte (Johnny Diesel) playing birthday parties and backyard gigs.

              Saw Chisel at the Totty.

Spiderbait I remember now was at the Tote at 4 on a sunday afternoon with an audience of fifteen. In 1990.

They played some gigs, and released an album as "The Barking Spiders". A reference to 'flatulence', apparently.

Lime Spiders were a different band.

It's great, was recorded during the Last Stand shows.

One I didn't see, but could have was the White Stripes. Back in the late 90's or early 00's they did a tour which included the Empress of India on Nicholson st, NNth Fitzroy. It was our local and we would sometimes pay to see generally sh*t bands play. Not this night, having drunk a little before rocking up when faced with a 15 quid cover we said no thanks, though not before asking who was playing and being told they were some rocking yankee 2 piece.

Poor old White Stripes. I went to BDO a few years ago specifically to see The Stooges. The Stooges were awesome but the White Stripes had to play straight after them. They walked on stage to the sight of 5000 people people with their backs turned and walking away.

I felt pretty bad for them.
