Move in Jon Oliver. He was great when he anchored and his new show is awesome. Give to JO.

Would have been a perfect fit. I doubt he'd move now as he's been so successful in carving his own niche on a more prestigious network (for probably a lot more money).

It's kind of depressing that there's no correspondent on the show who could take the job now. I'd love if Wyatt Cenac came back to do it

Either Stephen Colbert would be good. I wish he'd reconsider the move.

We've already had our Letterman-Coco debacle in recent history. No way he reconsiders any time soon without the show being a disaster.

Then Wyatt Senac for me. I wonder. If Steve Carrell is finished with b grade movie making for the highest post in TV?

I feared this day would come, but figured on it still being a few more years away.
At least John Oliver's new show is very quickly becoming another must watch 'fake news' show.
I wouldn't mind seeing Aasif Mandvi take over, but i get the iimpression he's a busy man with other things as he isn't on The Daily show much these days.

I see your not familiar with Foxcatcher. The Carrell window is almost certainly shut too.

It's just the worst time for this to happen. Someone outside of the TDS crew might work. Specifically Tina Fey. Not sure about the status of the sitcoms she's been shipping around and what her ongoing association with them will be though. Amy Pohler has also been suggested

Haven't really warmed to him like Oliver, Cenac or Williams

I don't see sitcom actors working necessarily. Stewart is book smart, articulate, thoughtful, spontaneous, well drilled and inquisitive as he is bloody funny. It's not enough to be funny to pull off anchoring such an institution, but an ambassador for everything counter Fox.
                    Bad time in deed.

I know it didn't work replacing Larry King with a Brit, but I wonder if Sacha Baron Cohen would/could go for something like TDS. Smart, funny, articulate, Jewish and adept at playing characters and likes to poke fun at everyone. Just like John Stewart. No chance whatsoever, but a fun thought.

Jessica Williams rules herself out of the job and John Oliver signed an extension with HBO though to 2017. The field thins

John Oliver ramped it up to make sure he's number 1 after Stewart & Colbert are gone. His interview with Edward Snowden on Last Week Tonight is some of the best interviewing I've ever seen. It's about 15 or so minutes, but it's a masterpiece.

                            Looking forward to that.

Trevor Noah will be replacing John Stewart some time next year. He's a South African who's hosted late night tv before and is a current (though new) correspondent
