    Vale Bart Cummings

    Australia has lost a cultural and sporting icon this morning. The dry wit, the understated nature. I personally want to thank Bart for backing Viewed in the 2008 Melbourne Cup - he won me a few hundred that day.

    Sincere condolences to the Cummings family.

      Shit way to start the morning. I loved Bart, Australia loved Bart. No one will get even close to his records. Vale BC.

      Love his dry witted quote on the news: (regarding hall of fame status) It's recognition of the past... with no money.
      After a Saintly won big, Bart had a tear a in his eye... Journo: Why do you have a tear in your eye Bart? Bart: I didn't have enough on it.

          Sad news. The Melbourne cup won't be the same.
          Condolences to his family and friends.

              Vale Bart, we have lost a true Australian legend today.
              The 'Bart Cummings Melbourne Cup' has a nice ring to it.
              It's better to die on our feet than live on our knees.

                          Much like the way I felt about Richie Benaud and cricket, I associate Bart with the traditional and pure aspects of the sport.

                          Racing has lost a giant...who was an icon without ever making it about himself.
