I've had a closer look at his averages. In first class cricket he has a more than respectable average of 40 with the bat with 9 centuries and 29 scores over 50. This average might be somewhat boosted by his 24 not outs in 138 innings but on the other side he might have scored a couple of more centuries had he not run out of as many batting partners. I think it's reasonable to assume that without the gloves and batting at 5 for the Vics he could be averaging 45 with the bat.

I still think it would be a ballsy move to just concentrate on his batting but it could be his best chance.

He's done his best to position himself for a promotion but I wonder if it would be in some ways a step backwards if he was selected
Renshaw and Burns shoul also be in the mix for a recall.

All three can come in as far as I'm concerned. They probably couldn't do much worse to be honest.

It's a very small sample size due to his keeping commitments, but Wade's medium fast bowling has a first class average of 23.8 and a strike rate of 35.6 - we would lose absolutely nothing in the bowling by replacing Mitch Marsh with Wade. And of course we gain so much more consistency in batting with Wade averaging just on 40 in first class cricket with the willow. He's also the highest run scorer in shield cricket this year and is in hot form in BBL.

It's a no-brainer for Sydney really. Rest one of the quicks and bring in a specialist spinner (I'd go with Fawad). Replace Mitch Marsh with Wade at no. 6. Replace Finch with Burns at the top of the order - feel sorry for Finch because he's not a test opener's backside and is better suited to the middle order where he has solid form the last 3 years for the Vics.

To be fair, I have no patience for Shaun Marsh before another single digit score today (run out or otherwise). My hobby horse has been playing Matt Wade as a specialist lower order batsman. He's already ahead of Marsh at test match level:

Marsh: 16 tests, average 33, 2 centuries
Wade: 12 tests, average 34, 2 centuries

I know Wade had a collar bone break a couple of weeks ago, but if he's fit I'd like to see Wade play as a specialist batsman against the windies and see what happens. Thoughts?
