    Cricket commentators

We have discussed football commentators and we all know the pain I get listening to Bruce.
So lets go through out favourite and not so favourite cricket ones.
Healy is my Bruce replacement during cricket season.
Freddie Flintoff is bloody hilarious and makes the game enjoyable.
Okeefe was a pearler and I also loved Lawry and Big Max.
Of course the best radio one of them all was Alan Mc Gillvray, the tap of the pencil as bat hit ball.
I find Rodney Hogg very informative and tends to put his neck out but gets quite a lot right.

    Good discussion ledge
Slater and Healy are awful!! Why is Healy so loud in every moment .
Chappel is quiter, but more concise
I can only bare to watch 9 briefly, and having less Bill Lawry isn't great either .
The ABC have really picked up their coverage this season
Chris Rogers, Simon Katich, and Dirk Nannes are excellent

Tim Gossage ! Wow that's just wrong. No one From WA should commentate if even one player is from WA, no one else is playing if a WA player is on the field.
I'm glad Bruce is doing the basketball, I'm not into basket ball :-)

        Re: Cricket commentators

The channel 9 team at the moment is very ho hum to me. Taylor, slater, Healy and Lee provide no interest to me whatsoever.
And they are made worse by the fact that 9 doesn't have any commentators from touring country involved.
The host doesn't count as a Pomm because he's the host and tries to be in the middle.
They really lack that opposition view, ie the Lawry vs Greig to fire the discussion up. Now they just spew out crap
and all agree on with each other. It's like listening to Tim Gossage call a WCE game with his W.A. posse.

The last two years there has been no regular Indian or now West Indian commentators in the team.

Interviewing Richie Richardson at Lunch doesn't count.

          Re: Cricket commentators

I have hated every Channel 9 commentator except Bill Lawry, so it was great to hear his voice again today.

I reckon Gossage follows Stkilda, but he is very WA centric

              Re: Cricket commentators

Agree with a lot so far written. In particular:

              - 9 commentary is generally vanilla and ho hum.
              - Special mention for Healy who is horrid.
              - 10 by comparison is a breath of fresh air, largely through Flintoff who injects great personality and humour (otherwise, Ponting and Fleming are ok, Gilchrist so so and Mark Waugh is awful).

Over the years, my favourite commentators would be Shane Warne (can't warm to him as a bloke, but his ability to dissect the play and provide real insight is undeniable), David Hookes, Henry Blofeld, Jeremy Coney, Bill Lawry, Harsha Bogle, Ian Smith, Jonathon Agnew and Michael Holding. Of the recent/current players Chris Rodgers and Ed Cowan are pretty good.

Least liked would be Healy, Jim Maxwell (self important wind bag), Ian Botham, Ravi Shastri, Mark Waugh, Greg Ritchie (ugly man), Allan Border (loved him as a player, but just dull as a caller - his puerile analysis makes it hard to believe he was a Test captain), Jeff Thompson and Stuart Clark.

I'd add Gerard Whateley to that list as well. I don't mind the channel 10 commentators but they do have a tendency to go over the top but I'd rather listen to the ABC guys every day of the week.
