Why is the Boundary still roped in

With batsman using weapons that smash the ball to the pickets with a defensive prod why are boundaries still roped in these days? Surely bowlers are up against it enough without having the boundaries 10 or 15 metres closer than they normally would be.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Think its more of a safety issue now to stop players having battles with the fence.
It's better to die on our feet than live on our knees.

After Ponting and (I think) another player received significant injuries from slamming into the fence they decided to rope all grounds.

The side benefit is also making it easier to score. Administrators want bigger scores in all forms of the game.
      TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

It must be simple enough to construct the fence out of a material that has some give in it. I think Jeemak's side benefit is probably the number one reason.

Couldn't disagree more to be honest TD, I absolutely hate when one of commentators bring up removing the boundary ropes as a way of evening the game up. Not sure how it could be argued for when the potential risks are stories like this http://www.smh.com.au/news/sport/cri...027856561.html

Got to keep the ferals and the unwashed as far away from the talent on the field as possible.

Ouch. Poor kid. My own dear old dad is hooked up to a dialysis machine three times a week.

              Keep the ropes.
