    RIP Johan Cruyff

Dutch footballing genius and European footballer of the century Johan Cruyff died of cancer yesterday at the age of 68.

Cruyff was also the manager who developed Total Football as well as virtually inventing the modern day colossus that is Barcelona FC.

    RIP Johan.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

    Yeah, I'm reading tributes ATM.

Sad stuff. A true legend of the game who changed football forever.
    The curse is dead.

I dunno how much good the old man would be to us now. Someone like him is what we need.

In that article it says that Cruyff had a stand up argument with the priest at the baptismal about whether it was appropriate to name his son after the patron saint of Catalonia. The priest was very reluctant to do it. "I'm Dutch, I decide" says Cruyff. Then without any comment in the next paragraph it refers to a president of Barca called Jordi. Strange.

RIP Johan. My hero as a boy. Will miss what you brought to the game.

Whilst Rinus Michels was the architect of total football only through Cruijff was he able to implement it. Cruijff then built on Michel's legacy and further developed total football during his time at Barcelona.

The greatest player in the game not to have won a world cup. Did not play in 1978 WC due to the threat of being kidnapped, as he later revealed.
