Great to see Simmons working on his game in south west London.
The first game was annoying, we were often reckless against Argentina. The next two games we were patient and executed our offense very well.

I'd drop Sobey for Green or Giddey but that is probably unlikely. BTW Cooks looked OK in limited minutes.

I'd take a pass on Simmons as a Boomer going forward even when we lose the likes of Mills, Ingles, Dell and Baynes.

      Re: Boomers Olympic Squad

Would anyone like to take a stab at how the Boomers squad might look like for the Paris Olympics?

      I'd go with something like

      PG Giddey/Vasiljevic
      SG Exum/Mills
      SF Green/Thybulle
      PF Humphries/Kay
      C Landale/Reath

      2 more spots
      Cooks and Daniels

I actually can't find a home for Ingles but acknowledge he will be selected. I also can't see Simmons being available but we would pick him if he was. Could we play Simmons and Thybulle together given their lack of shooting? If Simmons is selected I wouldn't pick Thybulle.

Magnay and Goulding must be close.

I think Thybulle has improved his shooting, he's taking more 3s at Portland that he did previously. But of course we have many better shooters so I think he's a walk up start to be selected for his defensive output alone in FIBA basketball. Simmons would be at long odds of playing.

It's good to see Reath doing well at Portland also, we are still a little thin with big men, but at least we have 2 quality options in Landale and Reath.

Looking forward to the next generation in Giddey, Green and Daniels begin to take over from the likes of Mills and Ingles.

So with Simmons as good as being ruled out with his injury does this change things much for the 12 players we take to Paris?

I don't think it'll change things too much given he'd likely not have played anyway.

We'll still be led by the old brigade who are now unfortunately on the wrong side of old. Mills and Ingles have really fallen away in the nba to the point they hardly even get rotation minutes anymore.

I still expect Mills to be the heartbeat of the team but would be surprised if we got close to a medal again. USA and France will dominate. I really hope Wembanyama plays for France. He's incredible to watch.

The younger core needs to step up this games. Hopefully the likes of Giddey, Green and Daniels can start to take the reigns of what guys like Patty have put so much effort into getting the boomers to where we are. Exum has come back strong in the nba this season. So we've got a strong supporting cast. We're just lacking that elite scorer that Mills provided in Tokyo.

Ingles has been playing a fairly prominent bench role for the Magic, averaging 17 minutes per game this season.

Mills wasn't getting many minutes at all in Atlanta but has played 16 and 14 minutes in his first 2 games for Miami which should give him the court time needed leading into Paris.

I hadn't realised Ingles was getting that many minutes! He's averaging near on career lows. It's good to see Mills getting minutes in his first starts with Miami. I was surprised how little he was used in Atlanta. I don't see him in the same way as Ingles. Whereas Ingles has dropped off from his Utah form, Mills could still offer something off the bench. He just wasnt given many opportunities in Atlanta.

Goorjan must have seeked some guidance from our Australian cricket selectors and as a result he's provided goodbye tours for Ingles and Dellavedova for being long term stalwarts despite not really performing.

Australian Boomers squad for Paris: Josh Giddey, Dyson Daniels, Josh Green, Patty Mills, Dante Exum, Jock Landale, Duop Reath, Joe Ingles, Jack McVeigh, Will Magnay, Matthew Dellavedova, Nick Kay.

No issue with the selection of Ingles for mine, happy for him to go to Paris but would expect more of a cameo role off the bench than previously. Delly was one of a few that could have gone either way and there were always going to be some unlucky players. Thybulle missing in particular was a surprise.

Interesting Goorjan just signed Cooks to the Kings on apparently the biggest NBL contract of all time and then left him out of the squad. I probably would have taken him over Kay.

Thyballe missing was a shock. Played a pivotal role in the Tokyo medal and is a superb defender. I haven't followed him too closely this year but I'm very surprised he's not in the squad.

Thybulle out is a joke. A great defender with insane athleticism that is sorely lacking in our team. Just a farce.

I am actually a little angry about it.

The only thing holding back my anger is the fact I haven't followed him at all this past nba season. So I have no idea how he's travelling but it cannot be that bad can it?

There was always going to be some head scratchers. I thought Thybulle was a lock though and CG43 showing how the instant offence was real he was also a shoe in. I can kind of understand Goulding missing, they were found wanting on offence at the WC, didn't play him, I think he's a perfect fit for that 11th or 12th spot.

What I saw Magnay last night didn't thrill me. He was a liability on offence, defensively I get it, we need height, I just don't think he's that guy.

These are deep spots though and I think regardless of who we chose we're not going to be pushing for a medal.

Might be injuries with him, not sure. He was injured last night and struggled to finish the NBA season. Maybe they're cautious? All I can come up with.

I didn't know that but that's literally the only reason that would make sense.
