    Greyhound Racing Banned in NSW

A sign on things of things to come maybe, although Victoria says they won't. Some of the details in the released report are shameful, irrespective of whether or not you like the sport.

I remember how corrupt it was back in the 70s. If a trainer didn't want a dog to win they would feed it bread and milk before a race and put an elastic band around the dogs balls.

Need to ban it in Vic as well.

Dont worry about the people that rely on the industry to make a living
Dog trainers,Racecallers ,Pet food/Gear suppliers,11 greyhound track and GRV admin people , caterers ,hot dog /coffee peopleand many more.
The revenue to hospitals etc that is generated by TAB
As usual the minority has ruined it for the majority that go bty the rules and care for their dogs.
Its not the 70s any more

Quite simply they can find another job that doesn't involve animal cruelty. Well done Mike Baird and what a courageous decision. I would like to think that this is a sign of things to come in other states and horse racing as well but i think its more wishful thinking on my part.

I know nothing about the greyhound racing industry, but I am reasonably confident that the McHugh Commission of Inquiry did quite a bit of research before they published their findings. It is impossible to look objectively at something when you are on the inside.

In your view hughy31 do you think the good eggs within the industry do enough to ostracise and expose the bad eggs? Or, is there a prevalence of "turning a blind eye" that leaves the bad eggs to their devices?
                  TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Have felt this way for many years hughy31. Any industry that culls animals because they just don't run fast enough to bring another one in i have a problem with. These are living creatures and shouldn't be thrown out like garbage.

I know people make a living in this industry and not all people treat their animals poorly but my main concern are the animals and their exploitation. Horse racing is a big problem but i doubt they will do anything there. I'm not a fan of zoo's either.

Since that horrible 4 corners coverage where they caught those pricks on camera the GRV have been pro active on charging the bad eggs and have more spot checks on trainers. It is a pity that the 4 corners coverage had to give the GRV the kick in the arse they needed but now it is hopefully well regulated.
There will always be cheats in any sport but now with drugs tests ,stewards visits, the game is and will get cleaner ( not like the 70s ) or before.
                      On horse racing
Go to any stable and see how passionate and caring staff and trainers are to their horses .
Reg Fleming who was Bart Cummings foreman was so happy after their horse Precedence ran a good race in the cup but went back to the stall and next stall was a horse that broke down and has to be destroyed .He was gutted ...,. accidents happen in every sport.
Jumps racing to me is spectacular and gives a slower horse a chance to be a champ. They have put in place safer conditions and guidelines for jump racing to follow( which was met last season ) It is a pity that those who are anti jumps go to the track and hope a horse falls/ dies to enhance their argument.

I am of the opinion that this is a good decision. However those that have made this decision are probably hoeing into a juicy steak as we speak. We really should be banning any industry that is cruel to animals - milk industry, egg farming, pig farming etc etc.

It's why I went Veg 5 years ago and will go Vegan eventually although I'm pretty close now. Any industry involving animals always has a disgusting despicable underbelly and I don't want to be apart of it.

Good on them in NSW for doing the right thing and not caving into $$.

                            Thanks for responding.

I guess what I was really asking was, were the practices exposed on 4 Corners known to have been occurring within the industry? Did anyone actually do anything to call out and stop the abhorrent behaviour or did everyone turn and look the other way?

Was that the horse (can't remember the name) that was spooked on the way back and broke its leg on the rail? If it was that's just shit bad luck not much could have been done at the time.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
