When did the all rounder become a cemented part of our cricket side? Are we still hanging onto what Flintoff did in the 2005 Ashes?

Runs are going to be at a premium this series. Both sides have pretty weak top 7s. Any logic would dictate picking your best 6 batsman
He's not Ian Botham or Keith Miller either. That's the standard of batting required for the all-rounder to bat in the top six otherwise the all rounder bats at seven and you pick six proper batsmen. Gilchrist batted at seven.

Apart from anything else we are watching a career being needlessly destroyed in national TV.

They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Did Healy ever play in the same side as an all-rounder? Despite his first class record, you have to put Nevill on about the same level with the bat

If you can squeeze Marsh into your birth name somewhere then your Baggy Green is waiting to be picked up at Dad's ummm I mean Rodney Iron Gloves Place.

On our home conditions we should be more than competitive but I'm wondering if we are selecting the right team to challenge them.

So who do you think will be the 12th man Mennie or Siddle?

Siddle - I get he is a workhorse, but we need to blood new bowlers.

Siddle plays. All respect to Mennie but if everyone's fit, I've got Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins, Pattinson, Bird, Siddle, Sayers, Coulter-Nile and Behrendorff clearly ahead of him. Not to mention two terrfic kids coming through in Joel Paris and Billy Stanlake.

I have Mennie in the next rung down with Boland (averaged 20 in the Shield last year), Doug Bollinger, Trent Copeland (also averaged 20 in the Shield last year) and Andrew Fekete. Good Shield players but not test cricketers

Kind of like the bloke that Warnie sledged and blamed on Joe the camera man?
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Siddle. He's still got more good cricket left on him.

I'd never heard of Joe Rennie before this team was named.

Good start for Australia, with SA choosing to bat. 83/5 with du Plessis going out after lunch.
