He's guaranteed of playing next test. Move him up to 4? That's about the only change available.

Averages less than 30 in first grade, he simply cant move up to 4. Maybe move him down to 7.

Set Neville up to fail at 6? Nah, and Starc's a better bag so it'd 8th. The obvious thing to do is drop him and tell him to force his way back into the team like most Australian players have to do after their first stint ended poorly (Clarke, Khawaja, Martyn, Phil Hughes, Langer etc, etc).

          What an absurd suggestion

If I was Smith I'd make a statement and bat him at 10... where he belongs.

Burns and Ferguson into the squad, unlike what the selectors said. S Marsh is out with a broken finger so straight swap for Burns I imagine.

I really, really like calling Ferguson into the squad, hopefully they bat him at 6. He's made about 1400 runs @55 in the last few years with six hundreds. He has an excellent technique, a proven temperament with his stellar ODI record and the batting gears to bat with the lower order.

He's just about 32 but in terms of which batsman going round the Shield are best suited to the numer 6 role, they've just about nailed it. Very similiar to the way Hussey played at 6 in his first three years as a test cricketer. Now they just have to select him.

While I'm happy about the ins, the selectors look more and more like a bunch of blokes with no idea who can't even stick to a decision however bad it is. Unprofessional doesn't even get close to their output.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...lection-errors - good article. Reckon though M Marsh will stay and Voges will make way for Ferguson. I am all for an all rounder - provided that all rounder contributes. happy to overlook the odd performance, but the irony is that with Marsh the odd performance is all you get.

To be fair Mitch Marsh was batting well in the 2nd innings until he copped an absolute howler from DRS. According to ball tracking a delivery that was heading 6 inches down leg side magically changed direction in mid air to clip leg stump, completely ignoring the fact that it only straightened when it hit Marsh on the front foot before then hitting him on the front pad.

If it hits on the full isn't it assumed to be going straight on?

Bounced just in front of the foot. It was a poor DRS prediction. But that aside, he's still not performing at the level and everyone gets a bad one now and then. 23 with the bat and 38 wth the ball would have him as the worst international test all rounder. Mitch Starc has a better batting average and much, much better bowling average. If we need an all rounder to appease the selectors, then let's just call Starc an all rounder, but a bowling all rounder and bring in another batsman.

From what I could make out the ball tracking had the ball swing out then in on its projection for that delivery. It was a really confusing review.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
