Stumps 3/322 hard for the vics to lose this even if it's only the first day . I imagine we will just bat as long as we can.

A draw will secure the Shield for Vics.

Victoria all out for 323, leaving SA needing 523 in about 2 sessions!

This is why five day cricket is so exciting.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

We've been pretty well looked after as supporters. Vics with a threepeat in the shield, Footscray with 2 of the last 3 VFL premierships (should have been 3) the doggies winning a flag and even Footscray winning a district premiership.

Does anyone know how the point system with Shield cricket works? How can Victoria have as many batting and bowling points as teams that have won 3 games when Victoria only has 1?

                          Sheffield Shield points system
Outright win: 6 points (no change)

                          Draw: 1 point (previously 0)

                          1st innings win: 0 points (previously 2)

                          Bonus batting

First 100 overs: .01 for every run above 200

Example: 350 runs in the first 100 overs = 1.5 points. Batting points are uncapped until 100 overs

                          Bonus bowling

First 100 overs: 0.5 points awarded at fall of fifth wicket, seventh wicket and ninth wicket

Example: 8 wickets in first 100 overs = 1 point. Bowling points capped at 1.5

After first 100 overs, no further bonus points available to either team

Thanks Axey. Mate, talk about a complicated system. Cricket used to be pretty simple and straightforward-and that was the whole point of the game, it's simplicity. You got points if you led on the first innings (and that was usually the contest) and you got a shedload of points if you won outright. Win enough games outright and you host the final. You host the final and you pretty much win the Shield.
