11 Batsman on the selectors radar

    This from Cricket Australia

Seven specialist bats and four allrounders shape as possible Test prospects if Lehmann and co opt for change

Following another Australian capitulation on day one of the second Commonwealth Bank Test, national coach Darren Lehmann conceded more selection changes could be on the horizon.

Middle-order batsman Adam Voges was well aware heading into the summer that, at 37, the pressure on him would come quickly if he failed to make runs, and the WA captain – who was out first ball yesterday – has failed to reach 30 in his past eight Test innings.

But with a line-up already baring several names unfamiliar to the Australian public, who can the selectors turn to in a bid to solve the team’s batting woes?

We’ve scoured the domestic ranks and found 11 players (seven batsmen and four allrounders) who represent the most likely candidates for Lehmann and his fellow selectors to consider ahead of the third Test in Adelaide.

    George Bailey (Tas)
    Cameron Bancroft (WA)
    Peter Handscomb (Vic)
    Travis Head (SA)
    Jake Lehmann (SA)
    Nic Maddinson (NSW)
    Kurtis Patterson (NSW)

    ALLROUNDERS
    Ashton Agar (WA)
    Glenn Maxwell (Vic)
    Moises Henriques (NSW)
    Marcus Stoinis (Vic)

Which one of them has a bit of old fashioned G & T and a decent temperament? if there's 6 on that list I'd say play them all and get rid of these pampered prima donnas that are in there now.

    If none, bring back Boon

I like that idea, Bring back Boony! Just one test but he'd sort the rest out. He'd make more runs than Steve Smith probably.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Bancroft is a throw back to the style of batsman that accumulates runs patiently. He is also a sensational bat pad fieldsman.
I also like a player called Sam Heazlett (not mentioned) who reminds me a bit of Simon Katich.

I'd have James Faulkner in the mix as an allrounder ahead of some of the players named

Contractually obliged to mention at least 3 blue baggers. Maddinson? Spare me. He's a great example of what's wrong with modern young batsmen...

Why won't they play Faulkner? He's much better than Marsh if we have to have an all rounder.

I like Bancroft. He's a proper cricketer. No chance they'd pick him.

George Bailey is no champion but at 5 or 6 he'd be a good character for this team at present.

Bancroft aside, it's a list of shot makers. Maddinson is the least responsible batsman in the country.

A few seasons back Jordan Silk would've been the first name picked on this list

The two South Australian boys seem to me to be reasonable long term options. Probably a little way off being ready though.

Head has been around for a while - but I think he is only 22 years old. Only averaging 33 at first class level - but given his age, you'd think that would be trending in the right direction over the next few years.
Lehmann is going really well. Averaging 48+, spent some time playing for in England for Yorkshire - which I like.

My problem with Lehmann is his ability to play spin coming into an Indian tour. It's not good.

My next picked would be Handscomb, he's a stroke maker but his game as matured

I'm not against aggressive batsman but they have to have a decent defense and be able change gears when the situation requires.
Handscomb seems to have a very good balance.

Why does Mitch Marsh get a gazillion tests to prove he's not up to it and Faulkner doesn't get a crack?
