    Mark Schwarzer ?

How does he really rate amongst the goalkeepers?

I see he is in negotiations regarding a new contract so I guess Middlesborough might think they can do better.

Where would he rank among the goalies at the EPL?

I imagine he would rate alongside David James a little, getting old but still very capable of doing the job.
Middlesborough looking at trading him is interesting because they have a very good goal keeper in Schwarzer and sometimes its the old adage of go with the reliable or look for someone younger while they can pick them up cheap, or does Middlesborough need some money while Shwarzer is still worth a bit?
Or is it just the run of the mill negotiations of just trying to get the best you can?

      Resonable but not elite.
Bosnich was better but obviously more an idiot. Great penalty stopper but never had the ability to pull off a good reflex save like Bosnich could.

I remember an interview with Frank Farina i think it was, and they asked him who he thought was the better goalkeeper out of Bosnich and Schwarzer. To the best of my memory, his response was along the lines of "Both are great goalkeepers, but Bosnich has the ability to make the simple look brilliant" In a way, say the ball was heading for the top left corner, Schwarzer would jump with two hands and punch it away whilst Bosnich would jump the other way and then just flick the ball over the bar with his other hand.

Schwarzer is a consistent not a great keeper. Bosnich when fit was. Most of time keepers can't make impossible saves but Bosnich every now and then could.

Japan's goal in the WC match might have been a free for Schwarzer but he can also be blamed as he didn't go hard at the ball. He also saved a penalty against China recently but caused it in the first place(soft penalty though it was).

Kalac and David James are very similar, both are very suspectable to a howler. Personally the last thing I would want from a international keeper.

Best keeper in the world is Buffon. He should have won the WC player of the tournament and not Zidane.

I also don't believe being able to save penalties means you are a great keeper. Its a completely different situation and more a mind battle than a skill battle.

Fulham Signs Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer to Two-Year Contract

May 22 (Bloomberg) -- Fulham signed goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer from Middlesbrough for two years through the summer of 2010, the English Premier League soccer club said on its Web site.

Schwarzer, 35, had been with Middlesbrough since 1997, playing more than 400 games. The Australia international has also played with Bradford City in England and Kaiserslautern and Dynamo Dresden in Germany.

``I am delighted to have joined Fulham and look forward immensely to the new challenge in my career,'' said Schwarzer, who turned down the offer of a new contract at the Riverside after his current deal expires next month.

Bayern Munich and Juventus had shown interest in Schwarzer, who played at the 2006 World Cup, according to U.K. media reports.

Fulham used Antti Niemi and Kasey Keller as keepers last season. Niemi is still under contract; Keller is not.

``After stiff competition from a number of high-profile European clubs, I am exceptionally pleased that Mark has chosen to come to Fulham,'' the London team's manager Roy Hodgson said. ``His credentials on both the domestic and international arenas are impeccable, which is reinforced by the caliber of clubs that wanted to sign him.''

Fulham finished 17th in the 20-team Premier League this season, beating Portsmouth 1-0 in the final game to avoid relegation by a superior goal difference over Reading. The bottom three teams drop to the Championship.
