He's been in sensational form in the IPL and I'm wondering if anyone thinks he is a future ODI or test player for Australia? If so, where would you bat him?

 Re: Shaun Marsh

He has always been a super talent, even in his teens playing for Willetton. Will play ODI this winter for OZ and will bat 4,5,6 next summer for Australia in the tests.

HIs younger brother is the youngest player to sign a state contract (with the WACA) and is a star at under 18's footy for WA. 190cm mobile forward with sticky hands

 Re: Shaun Marsh

He will walk straight into Gilly's opening spot, has been in sensational form, watched him on a few occasions during the IPL, also a gun gully fielder.Comment

 Re: Shaun Marsh

For that to happen we would have to drop another batsman.

 Gilly
 Hayden
 ponting
 clarke
 Symonds
 Hussey
 Hopes
 Lee
 Johnson
 Bracken
 Hogg.

Haddin comes in as the keeper for Gilly while someone (noffke?) will take Hoggs spot.

For Marsh to play someone like Clarke may have to keep. But if he doesn't some in a Clarke or Hussey would have to open. (my preference would be Hussey to open)Last edited by hujsh; 28-05-2008, 08:42 PM.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

 Re: Shaun Marsh

I think Hayden should be moved from ODI cricket. As brilliant as he is, it's time to find someone else at the top of the order.

A mate of mine is convinced that the line up should be something like:

 Watson
 Hopes
 Ponting
 Symonds
 Clarke
 Hussey
 Haddin
 Noffke
 Lee
 Johnson
 Bracken

Marsh, White, DHussey and Clark as the backups.

You can see he has little regard for true spinners in this form of cricket.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

 Re: Shaun Marsh

I thought about this but i wonder how much we would miss him. Would need a good replacement as he's the best opener in any form of cricket imo.

Would Watson bowl? With 6 bowlers (if Watson's bowling) and 2 part timers we could have another specialist batsman

I see spinners as very important but wouldn't see any in this team bar maybe Cullen. More a blight on the Aussie spinners that none are good enough.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

 Re: Shaun Marsh

I think we need to bite the bullet there. With Jaques no lock for the position and Rogers with a big question mark, we need to have some backups developed. ODI cricket is a good introduction for it.

5th bowlers spot shared between him and Hopes. Symonds and Clarke as part time spinners. Unless we have someone better then it's pointless playing other spinners. We don't need more batting depth than those 7 plus Noffke and Lee.

Good spinners yes, bad ones no. We haven't got a viable option so some medium pacers can do the job especially given that they can bat.
Australian selectors need to fast track a few spinners to see if they can make the jump.
We won't dominate world cricket like we have unless we find a good spinner or two quickly.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

 Re: Shaun Marsh

 Agree with the theory

Yes there's depth but i don't know how comfortable I'd be with Hopes and Watson. Either could open but them together makes me a bit worried.

I agree though Clark seems to bowl well on deteriorated wickets to help fill the void in the mean time

 Re: Shaun Marsh

Thats why I sort of favour Marsh as an opening batsman in ODI cricket but I can see the logic in having two guys like Hopes and Watson throwing the bat around early and adding a fair bit of depth with the bowling.

Back to Marsh, he is in great form and now would be the best time to test him. He also would have been a better alternative to Katich at the top of the order in the last test.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Did I hear right the other day that Marsh's contract for the IPL is around $32,000?

He has made over 600 runs from 10 trips to the crease and it just doesn't seen right that Dhoni for example is on something like 1.5M.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

 Is that in batting order?

Now I remember why I've got nothing but contempt for the 50 over style of the game. That's the most mentally fragile opening partnership we would put onto the park since the days of Graeme Wood and Rick Darling. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

 Have to smirk at that.
How bad was Graeme Wood between the wickets?
Was Rick Darling a happy hooker? As bad as Andrew Hilditch?
 Gesz we were crap then.Comment
