Now I'm no soccer expert, but this reeks of St.Kilda sacking Thomas.

Both had club record success under these coaches but let them go.

    Seems silly to me

      TCD,

Was this by choice or was he shown the door?

Make of it what you will.

Manchester City have confirmed that Sven Goran Eriksson has left the club by mutual consent.

Chief executive Alistair Mackintosh told the club's official website: "The board of directors and all at Manchester City would like to thank Sven for his efforts and contributions throughout the season and we wish him all the best for the future. Sven remains a friend of the club."

Eriksson added: "I have enjoyed my time at Manchester City very much indeed and in particular, I would like to thank the fans, players and staff for their amazing support over the season.

"I wish the club, and everyone associated with it, much success in the coming years."

Now, I'm no Sven fan, and I love Mark Hughes from his rampaging-forward days, but there's no question who the better coach/manager is and who has the reputation to bring in the bigger players in the world.

I don't think Thaksin, who is as shrewd an operator as they come, is going to go for Hughes. He'll be targeting some of the bigger names around, surely, Abramovich style.

Having said that, Mark Hughes will probably end up a pretty good fit at a manky place like City. (No disrespect, but I've lived near the Maine Road training ground, and let's just say it wasn't what you would call.. pretty -- the area, not the ground, which was nice enough).

            Man City confirm Eriksson sacking

Manchester City have sacked manager Sven-Goran Eriksson ending weeks of speculation over the Swede's future.

BBC Sport revealed in April that Eriksson was no longer wanted by owner Thaksin Shinawatra, despite City finishing ninth in the Premiership

He's now being linked to the Mexican National team job I believe.

He's already been confirmed in that role.

                  Hughes becomes Man City manager

Mark Hughes has been appointed as the new manager of Manchester City after signing a three-year contract.

Hughes held talks with the City hierarchy in London on Tuesday evening and agreed to leave Blackburn after a second round of talks.

City's only concern was a late move by Chelsea, but BBC Sport believes Hughes was never a serious contender.

Why would anyone in there right mind want to coach Chelsea?
Basically Grant got the sack cos Terry missed a penalty.

It would have been like John Worsfold getting the sack after the 2005 Grand Final.

                      Kind of comical really.

With out really knowing the ins and outs i would have thought Sven could get a better job them Man city anyway.

He used to rock up at training sessions at City in a Limo and wearing a suit. Imagine that, the guy rates himself.

Rock up at Maine Road in a limo? I'm surprised it doesn't get scratched going down the curry mile.

Chelsea have joined the big boys of European soccer -- Real Madrid sack coaches even after they actually WIN stuff.

They would have sacked Paul Roos by now for not playing the right kind of football. Are they the only team in the world to put aesthetic pressures on their manager as well as pure wins and losses?
