Congrats to Webby, Scraggers and GVGjr-the Red Sox are World champions...

The Sox and Patriots have always been my teams.
Mine too ... Had the privilege to go see them both play in 2003. Although the Red Sox fell to eventual winners NY Yankees, you could tell then that there was something special about that team. 2004 proved that right
And the Pats ... same season ... I saw them beat the Giants in October 2003; they went on that season to win the SuperBowl. I've been hooked ever since.

I got into the Red Sox via watching Cheers and having Sam Malone as a former Red Sox relief pitcher. For years RedSox was my password at work
The Pats was largely because for many years they were a basket case but played in the red, white and blue.
I was never able to commit to a basketball team just too many player moves made it impossible for me to really follow.

Re: Congrats to Webby, Scraggers and GVGjr-the Red Sox are World champions...
Thanks.
I got into the Red Sox due to a family friend, who was heavily into baseball, used to wear a Red Sox cap to Dogs games every time we went to the footy. He’d say “B for Bulldogs!”
It took me a year or two to realise he was only kidding. After the 1985 Prelim loss and the let down of 1986, it seemed impossible that the Dogs would ever win a flag. It’d been 32 years... Then the Sox made an October run for what I was told would be their first World Series title for 68 years or something stupid.
The Sox were beaten in the 7th and deciding game - on an error (a really bad, basic one) by a guy called Bill Buckner. Meanwhile, Australia were in the midst of drubbings by the Windies and England in the cricket. Sport seemed very cruel!
Things improved dramatically in the cricket, but in club land, the ‘97 Prelim happened (along with ‘92 and ‘98), whilst the NY Yankees chalked up a lazy four World Series wins. Two of them with former Red Sox Uber-star, Roger Clemens - just to rub salt in the wounds.
Fast forward to 2004, Sox finally make another American League Championship Series. High hopes of a World Series... They go down 3-0 in a best of seven series. Suddenly they win game 4, then 5, then 6.... then, a nervous Boston watched their team take the series 4-3.
They went to the World Series and made it an eight game winning streak. “Reversing the curse” as they said.
86 years of pent up emotion meant a very, very special event. I’ve often reflected on the Doggies’ 2016 success and compared it to Boston’s 2004 effort. It took Boston three more years to do it again. It was with a vastly different team. Then they did it again in 2013 with a vastly different team and now again in 2018 with an almost completely different lineup.. No World Series title for 86 years, then four in fifteen.
Once you break the seal, the floodgates can open. So long as the eyes are kept on the road. Don’t look back, look forward, and don’t be afraid to turn over your personnel. Keep striving. If you stay still, you perish.

Great post Webby.
And everyone else. It's great reading that you guys are happy. I was never a great fan of American sports (until my son came along with his love of NFL which then rubbed off on me) but there is something about baseball that I really love. It just sucks me in and always has. I don't really have a team-I like the Yankees but it's more Steinbrenner that I'm interested in than the actual team and a Yankees loss doesn't have me swearing at the moon like a Bulldogs or an Arsenal loss does.
Anyway great stuff guys. Enjoy.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Red Sox fans were calling for Price not to pitch again in October after his outing against the yanks.
Then he ends up pitching a gem in the W/S ! Mind you he’s the highest paid pitcher of all time
Re: Congrats to Webby, Scraggers and GVGjr-the Red Sox are World champions...
There was some outstanding pitching in this series - Walker Bueler for a 24 YO rookie was sensational & Eovaldi in the same game did not deserve the loss. Kershaw on the other hand struggled, and Sale was only a bit part in series.
Was pretty happy to see the season end with Machado falling to his knees on strike 3...not a fan.

You’re right - poor phrasing by me. They had the World Series won in the 10th inning of game 6. Then completely choked. Two awful errors in the 10th allowed that loss and game 7. They were mentally cooked. It was the worst thing I’d seen - until September ‘97..
