    Cricket commentators

Has anyone else been impressed by the cricket commentators this summer? Foxtels coverage has been excellent in both the tests and big bash games. Of a particular notice is the quality of the female commentators who have been very impressive
I quite like having KOK back for the test cricket.

How have you rated the commentators?

    Re: Cricket commentators

I've been enjoying Fox's commentators but from what I've heard (I haven't actually watched any of Seven) c7s have been a bit of a train wreck. I've noticed in the car how much better SEN's have been to the ABC (which disappoints me because I am a big fan of ABC radio). Have I also heard 3AW commentary as well? It must be pretty forgettable if I can't remember.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

James Brayshaw has brought his wink wink nudge nudge brand of douche baggery to Channel 7. That's about all I can remember as it becomes white noise when he starts speaking.

I have enjoyed the Fox Coverage and especially the 4k quality vision. On radio, I continue to listen to 774 as it is ad free and the commentators are still pretty good.

I have found the ABC radio commentary deficient for a number of years.

When I turn on the radio, I want to know the score and I mean the precise score. In the long past you would basically get the score after every ball and at least at the end of every over. Unfortunately the commentators and now more interested in chatting to each other and it is not regularly related to the game going on, or even the sport being played.

I need the radio to inform me, not bore me with what the commentators do away from the game.

I was driving one day last week and switched it on the 774. It was the start of the day's play but it was raining and the start was delayed. Did they mention the delay as soon as they started? Like hell they did, instead we got a long boring story about how they had all gone over to one of the commentators (one of the ex players) house the night before and somebody had fallen in the pool. But that wasn't the end of the hilarity because she had put her arm into a sling and pretended she had broken it, giving the other commenater a fit of conniption, until she pulled her arm out of the pretend sling to much mirth and talk of "wow you really had me there, I thought you had broken your arm." With no mention of the state of the game or the scores. I switched over to SEN and put up the ads.

                  Yep, like Punter.
Brayshaw is just annoying, his friendly 'lad' schtick comes at the expense of actual commentating which, as the name implies, is a pretty important part of commentating.

Is anyone surprised that ch 7 would put out an inferior product? They’ve poached Punter and think they have done their job.

                      Re: Cricket commentators

Geoff Lemon's new book 'Steve Smith's Men' talks about the last TV rights deal and how desperate Cricket Australia were to join the $1 billion club alongside AFL and NRL.

That desperation went even so far as knocking back a $960 million deal from Channel 10 that would've put EVERY game of professional cricket in this country - including the Sheffield Shield and JLT Cup - on free to air TV.

What better way to grow the sport and grab kids than make it as easy to access and constant as possible. You legitimately would've been able to switch on the tele on most days from November through to March and been able to watch a game of cricket.

Instead they took the quick buck, went with Channel 7 and Fox that tipped over the $1 billion figure, basically circumvented anti-siphoning laws and locked a chunk of the game away on pay TV.

Peevers very nearly destroyed Australian cricket with his political interference in the broadcast negotiations. Thank Christ the ball tampering report took him out, although he went down kicking and screaming.

How good are some of the female commentators? In my opinion they really know the game and are so professional and have certainly set a very high standard. Mel Jones, Lisa Sthalekar, Alison Mitchell and Isa Guhu more than hold their own calling cricket in fact I think they're as good as the men.
