Somebody with some leadership skills would be good. Paine lost me when he started on the elite honesty crap.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Carey as the keeper? I don't think Khawaja is an option. Head might be an option but mhch like Paine he hasn't quite established himself as a test quality player. Smith returning as the captain woukd be an interesting postion.

Isn't Smith out of consideration for a leadership position for 12 Months?

That's self imposed though I think. I'm pretty sure it was Smith who said that he just wanted to concentrate on playing when he comes back.

Is Sam Whiteman completely out of the equation as the Australian keeper? Is he qualified to play for us? I know he was born in England.

I stand to be corrected but I'm pretty sure that a 12 month exclusion was part of his sanction, and Warner's leadership ban is permanent.

Edit: Confirmed. Smith and Bancroft will not be considered for leadership positions until 12 months after their releveant suspensions end.

Correct, he isn't in the mix and I think I listened to him saying he would like to play under Tim Paine. I know he has to say things like that but I think we are light on for decent leaders and I'd be surprised if Paine doesn't have the job in England

I'm all for Warner not coming back in.

                I don't mind a clean sweep

He will come back in, but not in a leadership role.

Paine’s been excellent. Steadied the ship when needed and is a calm head .
He’ll go to England as captain as it will be hostile over there .

Carey would be my first choice.

There seems to be some speculation that Warmer will return as a middle order batsman.
I've listened to 2 or 3 commentators make mention of it.

I wouldn't mind if we left Warner on the sidelines but I think CA wants him back unless he stuffs up between now and then.

There is also some speculation that Burns is looking like an omission for the next test

Warner is our 2nd best batsman. A 12 month ban means he has done his time and should be instantly back in the squad for England.
Paine is a rubbish Captain, could give it to anyone and it at worst would be on par

I'd go in unchanged. We just won by an innings and the constant chopping and changing isn't a good thing for the morale of the side.

I thought Patterson really took to things like a duck to water and could be a good number 6 in the UK. He's a calm head and can steady a ship - the same role we wanted Katich to play in 2005 and the one Hussey did when he had that amazing early run of form and was averaging 90+.

Paine won't be going anywhere, purely because there are no other options with gloves or as captain. The UK may be his swan song, but the only reason he won't be there is injury.
