Re: KFC Big Bash
I went to Boxing day and thought the crowd was great, having fun etc. The security was deplorable and if I was VicPol I would complain about what they are forced to do.
Example:
Towards the end of the day, guys were collecting empty beer containers and joining them up to make a long snake, but apparently this is bad behaviour and security comes flying out to kick these guys out, and Police are forced to follow what security does.
A similar thing happened at the BBL where KIDS (under 10) were gathering KFC buckets and stacking them up and knocking them down. They were thrown out along with their mother. It is a bloody joke. No one was being aggressive, no one was being abusive, they were having some fun. I just don't get it.FFC: Established 1883

If the thing with the ten year olds had have happened near me the first words out of my mouth would have "what's the age of criminal liability pal? And think long and hard before you answer because it's your name that will go on the affidavit that I swear out to the proper (ie not someone who has only done a cert III course in security) authorities.I went to Boxing day and thought the crowd was great, having fun etc. The security was deplorable and if I was VicPol I would complain about what they are forced to do.

Children under 10
Children under 10 cannot be arrested, summonsed, charged or found guilty of a criminal offence (Section 344, Children, Youth and Families Act). This is because children below 10 are considered too young to be held responsible for their actions under the criminal law.
The age of criminal liability is the age at which a person can be arrested, charged and found guilty of a criminal offence. The age of criminal liability in Victoria is 10.
Think Very carefully. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Big Bash crowds are excellent. The only ejection we had was a 17yo who was smoking a joint
You're right in saying they can't be charged. If the thing with the ten year olds had have happened near me the first words out of my mouth would have "what's the age of criminal liability pal? And think long and hard before you answer because it's your name that will go on the affidavit that I swear out to the proper (ie not someone who has only done a cert III course in security) authorities.

The CYFA [i] doesn't say that children can't be ejected from an event under Section 83 of the Major Sporting Events Act.

Re: KFC Big Bash
You'd get no argument from me. But then you're a copper and a fairly senior one at that so I wouldn't bother with the barrack room lawyer routine with an experienced officer (a relatively new graduate, maybe) like you. I'd back my chances against the average security guard though. What is the legal definition of 'arrest'? If you eject someone then technically you would have to arrest or detain them first wouldn't you?
I pick my fights.

Last match at Whitten in 1997 I ran into a couple of my cousins just before the reserves game finished. They said "come for a choof" so I said "OK but where are we gonna do it? It's pissing down rain and the ground is packed. My cousin says "No worries, I know one of the food vendors we can jump in the back of his van." so we get to the van and this guys son is there but he had the keys so he let us in, shut the roller behind him and left us to it.
The problem was we hadn't worked out a signal or a sign or anything to let him know that we wanted out again and even if we did he had wandered off and left us there. We banged and banged and banged on the door until a young copper came and opened up the roller. The look on his face as the blue smoke shunted out of the van was priceless and my cousins and I got into place just in time to see Danny Southern roar at Gardiner and Matty Dent sit Worsfold on his arse. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: KFC Big Bash
A return to form for the Stars last night but most likely all for naught with 120-200mm of rain forecast for Sydney tomorrow. Ridiculous there is no reserve day or other contingency plans in place.
Only the Stars could manage to lose a grand final without a ball being bowled!Comment
