    MIA Batsman

A lot of decent prospects over the last few few years seem to have either fallen off the radar or are just missing in action

Hilton Cartwright played two tests and seemed to be a solid contributor at the Shield levelbut is now out of the WA side.
He was a handy bowler while not being anything that spectacular but as a batsman he seemed to have a solid technique and a sound temperament.

How does a player like Cartwright just drop out of the system so quickly?

I'd forgotten all about Hilton Cartwright. You're right, where did he go?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Then we come to Marcus Stoinis.
He's been around the Australian teams in the limited over versions mainly as a patient but hard hitting (a strange combination) batsman and is known as a handy bowler.
It's when you look a bit closer at his averages the problems become a bit more evident
A shield average of just 33 and he has only converted 4 innings into century scores in 101 shield innings. That does not bode well for a call up to the test team.

He has a sound technique and the right sort of temperament but just hasn't produced the volume of runs required to ease his way into the discussion on test selections

Lets have a close look at Matthew Renshaw

A composed opening batsman and a part time off spin bowler, Renshaw has dropped off the radar as a potential Australian cricketer
He was just 20yo when he debuted for Australia but in 20 innings he just didn't quite grasp his chance
He scored one century for Australia which was a magnificent 184 so the quality is there

I think he just needs a lot more cricket and probably needs to give away T20 to concentrate more on getting shield and maybe English county games. He should probably try and get a contract in England and play a heap of county cricket much like Labuschagne did

At least Renshaw has some time to find his way.

Hayden was one who dropped off the scene but came back strongly.

I'm a big Renshaw fan. I love his determination and passive aggression.

He has the perfect temperament and technique for test match cricket. I loved the way he fought through that sickness he got suddenly one day early on in his career.

Same here, I think he could also bat at 3 if needed and maybe at 5.

They should try and get him on the tour of Bangladesh but he needs to make plenty of run between now and the end of the summer

He's been injured. He could be a huge inclusion to the test team

And he is just the type of batsman we need to bring into the team too.

Ashton Agar burst on to the scene a few years ago in the Ashes series in England. Since then he has been in the Australia A side, and of course played SS for WA. I wonder where he is at and has he got a test future.
