Amazing news. Hopefully it will be a great time for young women, and parents with their daughters, and everybody else with an interest in world-class sport.

      I'm looking forward to it.

Fantastic result. Twitter was pretty down on our prospects of getting it last night once Englands vote became clear, which led to me going to bed a little pessimistic, but in every measure we were the better candidate and this is a great result.

Can't wait to see what the Matilda's/the vast majority of Melbourne City's squad can produce.

I wonder where the final will be played. Surely the MCG.

That is crazy. How can that be? I am so glad that our bid got up. Shoves it right up the establishment.

FFA are quite Sydney centric so I will be surprised if Melbourne even gets the preliminary finals equivalent round.

UEFA voted in a block for Columbia to grow the Women's game there, despite the bid being far inferior from all reports.

The South American's predictably voted for Columbia. Everybody else voted for AUS/NZ.

In the bid it's Australia Stadium. However, since then the new stadium has been changed to a refurbishment. Now because of COVID-19 the refurbishment has been cancelled. The MCG has not been even listed as a ground. The ground in the bid for Melbourne is AAMI.

Yes, just saw this in The Age

The AFL's unwillingness to negotiate with Football Federation Australia over access to the MCG and Marvel Stadium ruled Melbourne out of hosting the semi-finals or final of the 2023 Women's World Cup, to be held jointly in Australia and New Zealand.
The most important game in Melbourne, at AAMI Park, will be a quarter-final. The final will be in Sydney, with the semi-finals in Auckland and Brisbane.

Same as the Asian Cup I guess. Melbourne only had Aami Park games for that tournament, and no major games at all. Newcastle hosted one of the Australian games from memory, maybe even the semi?
