I hope Nadal wins just to piss off Novak.

I actually like Nadal the most out of Federer, and Novak, however, gut feel is Medvedev wins it - I think he is the current best anyhow.

Nope, I initially thought it was a corporate ticket that trickled its way down to my lowly level but alas, it was something much more crafty and in honesty I can't divulge how it fell into my hands.

My company did have tickets available but I didn't really want to do any corporate events with clients.

What I will say is we were on the line of the tram tracks, ten rows back. On the advantage service side. Possibly as close to the best seats in the house you can get and they didn't cost me a thing.

Rafa was outstanding early, I missed the first set unfortunately but he was equally as good if not better in the second from all reports. However, when Berrettini got going he hit some of the best shots of the game that I saw.

It was a tale of two different players though, and tennis has changed a lot since I saw Todd Martin play in 1999 or 2000 which was the last time I'd been to the tennis. Rafa messes with the pace and spin of the ball heaps, then used depth and directional change to make life hard for his opponents. And you see that on TV and with HD it's become more obvious, but you don't get the full experience until you're in front of it. Berrettini just keeps having a crack with his ground strokes and when they come off they are amazing. He easily hit the best one of the afternoon that I was right behind and the way it curled around Rafa after just getting over the net was one of the most beautiful sporting moments I've ever seen.

While Rafa annoys me with his gamesmanship, I have to remember that culturally I have different values towards how on court play is executed than some European cultures. But, he seems like a good guy and with that I'm happy for him to make another final.

AO sent an email last night offering tickets for tonight. When I looked them up on Ticketek they were $910 each . Surely this is a joke.

What a Champion, 1/5 in that second set and she won it.

A long time coming for an Australian to win the AO

Last Australian to win the Australian Open before tonight was 1978.

Yeah, she's got the stuff. From 5-1 down, and Collins at 30 love on serve for the set. That's just next level performance to break and hold twice in a row to get it back even. She just stole all the momentum.
Seems like a lovely, down to earth person. So thrilled for her.

Ash Barty has announced her retirement at age 25. What a shame but I guess she needs to do what's best for her.
