    Cameron Green

Simon O'Donnell raised some concern recently on how Cameron Green is performing.

After 16 tests and 23 innings Green is averaging just 33 with the bat. He has 5 scores over 50 and no centuries
With the ball he is averaging 35 run per wicket in 26 innings.

Looking a bit deeper at those innings batting, he has also had to come in a few times and chase quick runs and has probably thrown his wicket away to do the team orientated things. That probably hasn't helped his average.

His bowling looks pretty good although with the 3 quick bowlers in front of him all being quality bowlers and a great offie his chances of taking bags of wickets isn't quite there.

We've waited many years for a genuine all-rounder like Green but has he measured up with the bat like we should be expecting?
After 16 tests we've got a bit of data and form to determine how he is going.

    Re: Cameron Green

To be honest, I found O'Donnell's comments weird and a bit ridiculous.

Green looked out of touch in Adelaide but before that Test, he'd batted 5 times since October and he hasn't played a first-class innings since Sri Lanka in July. Looking rusty was to be expected and he had nothing to really gain in either of his innings in Adelaide. I think the selectors missed a trick not having him play in the warmup game against the Windies before Perth.

He was averaging 36 with the bat before the Adelaide Test - higher than Shane Watson's career test average and not far off Andrew Symond's test average of 40.6. This is also a guy that bats 4 for his state and is learning what it takes to play in the middle order. I think in time, he'll be moved up the Australian order too where he's more comfortable.

Green is coming off averaging 51 in Pakistan and 34 in Sri Lanka where he played a number of vital knocks and showed that he's going to be one of the side's better players of spin moving forward.

I think we're also forgetting that Australia has struggled to produce a number 6 for a long time. Going back to the 2017/18 Ashes, we've had:
-Travis Head batting 6: 15 innings, 1 century, average 39
-Mitch Marsh batting 6: 41 innings, 2 centuries, averaging 26
    -Kurtis Patterson batting 6: 1 innings, 1 century, 114*
    -Peter Handscomb batting 6: 3 innings, 1 half-century, average 71
-Marnus Labuschagne batting 6: 2 innings, average 6.5

Green is a potential generational talent and while he's not Garfield Sobers yet, he's played a number of important knocks and been a handy contributor to the side. If he does fail in Brisbane, I'm hopeful that the selectors stick fat.

I have no issues with Green. Sure he missed out with the bat, but he is the perfect foil with the ball, cat like in the field and unlike Marsh you really get the feeling a he has the capabilities to go big with the bat. He will be fine. I would like to see him get a County Contract once the domestic season is over with.

Measuring allrounders is difficult across both bat and ball.

        Botham - Batting 33.5, Bowling 28.4
        Watson - Batting 35.2, Bowling 33.7

Nothing here takes into account when they came in to bat/ bowl across different stages of dominance or otherwise from their respective teams, nothing takes into account decent wickets vs. roads. Green is bowling within an amazing attack, and batting with some top order players who are hitting it well enough to shield him.

There wasn't a lot to talk about across these recent tests against ordinary opposition so here we are I guess.
        TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Adding one more to that list Flintoff was 31.77 and 32.78

I can't see anything to be concerned about with Green whatsoever. The biggest worry is his workload. Looking like he will take up the riches in the IPL which probably won't help his body or his red ball form, but it's hard to blame him given the $$$ involved.
