Huge Novak Djokovic scare as Aus Open favourite leaves practice early with feared leg injury

Overwhelming Australian Open favourite Novak Djokovic’s return to Melbourne Park didn’t got to plan after the nine-time champion ended a practice match early after appearing to suffer a leg injury.

Djokovic, who has been installed as $1.80 TAB favourite to win the event after storming to victory in the Adelaide International last weekend, was playing a scheduled match against Daniil Medvedev on centre court.

But the match was ended after just one set, which Djokovic lost, after he hurt his left leg. Djokovic battled a hamstring issue on the way to his victory in Adelaide.

Djokovic, who is playing in the Australian Open a year after being deported because of his vaccination status, received medical treatment at least three times as he tried to play on.

But the world No.5 was not moving fluently across the court as he battled on, eventually calling it quits after 38 minutes to seek more treatment.

It’s unclear how significant the issue is, but Djokovic is scheduled to face Nick Kyrgios in an exhibition match on Rod Laver Arena on Friday night, with the match already a sellout.

Djokovic won the Adelaide International despite feeling a pulling on his hamstring which required a medical timeout during the tournament.

“When the pills kicked in, I guess, after a few games, when it was warm enough, I felt OK. Let’s see how it feels when I wake up tomorrow,” he said after Sunday’s final.

I remember back in the day we'd end up with 4 or 5 and somehow someone like Andrew Llie would make it through to the fourth round.

Hopefully Nick K head is in the right place and Kokkinakis gets some luck in the draw and his body holds up.

De minaur looks to have a favorable draw - on paper at least.

That's a big blow to the tournament.

Heading along on Sunday, always a great tournament. Become a yearly ritual on my calendar.

I'm not a massive tennis fan but heading along Friday night for our work Christmas function (didn't do anything pre Christmas). I'm not paying so it's cool with me!

Rod Laver, or one of the other courts?

Great match between Tsitsipas and Sinner.

We went along yesterday and it was a great day. It's always a really fun day/tournament. I don't miss working it though.
