    Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar now becomes the greatest run scorer in Test cricket surpassing Brian Lara. Have always been a fan of Tendulka's like the way he goes about his business on the cricket field.

Can Ricky Pointing now surpass Tandulkar?

Ponting for me. Then Richards, G. Chappell then Tendulkar.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I'd only have the order slightly different.

          Richards
          G. Chappell
          Ponting
          Tendulkar

I only saw him in a charity match when he was old and past it, but I shudder to think of how good Graeme Pollock was in his prime.

I saw him hit a cover drive that hit the fence so hard it bounced back to the fielders without them having to go and get it.

I remember seeing Jeff Thomson bowling at the nets at Whitten Oval when I was just a kid. He bowled a ball, it went through a hole at the bak of the net and smashed the windscreen of a car parked in Cross st. Scary fast!

Nothing to do with what we are talking about but there you go.

I went there and watched the Windies train.

Gordon Greenidge knicked one off Michael Holding that hit the net right in front of my nose. If it wasn't for the net it would have sconed me, I didn't even see it coming.

Was Deryck Murray bowling really passable leg spin that day?

I think I saw that session as well.

                  For mine, i'd have :

                  1. Tendulker
                  2. Richards
                  3. Lara

Lara's too high on that list IMO.

He's not in my top 5-probably woudnt be in my top 10-let alone ahead of Ponting or Chappell.

He would have been in the touring party so presumable he would have been there, but I don't remember seeing him bowl.

Lara is not even close to the rest of that list.

Late Night Legends (that wonderful show that used to be on ABC2 before the pony-tailed, Greens-voting, arts-loving, decaf-latte sipping wankers at the ABC pulled it off) showed Chappell's innings at Perth v the Poms in '72.

He went to tea on 16 and got out at about 5.30 for 108 without hitting the ball in the air once. Anything even slightly pitched up went to the cover/mid-off/mid-on fence and anything the tiniest bit short was picked out of the gutter at square leg. People forget how good a player of the hook and pull shots Greg Chappell was early in his career.

Yeah I saw the same game. I think it was the game where Zoe Goss got Lara out.

Pollock's batting was amazing. I think he was late 40's at the time and looked like he should have still been playing Test cricket.
