    WA Cricket

The WA side just appears to be getting stronger and stronger. Last night they again showed their depth and strength when the highly regarded but little known Theo Doropoulos batted brilliantly to steer them home for a win.

They are currently stacked for batsman and their bowling attack is improving as well. I wonder what they have been able to do to get themselves such a strong core of players.

Doropoulos looks a likely type who might press for higher honours. He didn't bowl last night but he seems to be a decent 5th bowler.

Won 6 shield games (outrights) in a row now - the last 4 of the 07/08 season and the first 2 this year. And that is despite Rogers' defection.

A lot of talent out there right now...so - what in goodness name is going on in South Australia?

It would now appear that Rogers might have seen the writing on the wall given the strength of the batting line-up. I still think they are a strike bowler short but they should be able to make a lot of big scores.

SA cricket has been on the decline for a few years now but currently there is still very little to get excited about.

          Which side isn't though?

The shield is set up for teams structured in the same way as WA is currently - loaded with bats with 'just enough' bowling. WA's current strategy with their bowling seems to be line and length, but with a backdrop that the opposition is trying to score quickly. That was certainly Tasmania's problem during their second innings last week...and whilst WA lost early wickets in response, Doropolous had no issues in scoring 70 to see them home.

SA are in real trouble - I dont understand what is going on. More than 1million people, no Australian reps and no-one really threatening. Apart from Gillespie, has anyone from SA made a meaningful contribution at national level in the past decade? Lehman I guess, but I still maintain by the time the selectors gave him a meaningful look at it his best days had passed.

Pardon my ignorance, but what happened to Mark Cosgrove?

Dropped to make room for Younis Khan.

I'm about to head down to Adelaide Oval and catch the last session today.

The Redbacks are set for another long year, especially if Tait gets called up for national duties sooner rather than later. Klinger looks to be a good pick up for us, but losing Harris to Qld really hurt, especially combined with the fact we have lost Blewett, Elliot, Gillespie and Lehmann from the side over the past few years.

Younis has had two absolute shockers in his first two innings for us as well, which hasn't helped.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Probably shouldn't be in the team anyway. Though Younis might get dropped the way he's going

                    .
I find that unlikely. He has been the best opener in shield cricket for 5 or 6 seasons now. Had a mixed year last year after being crook but he is a very good player.
