    South Australia

What is wrong with this rabble? Not long ago they had what looked like the best young talent in the country. Now Cosgrove still can't handle his weight and form and the two players that looked like becoming Australia's best spinners are both playing the the cricket Australia cup (reserves). Even the one shining light (Tait) has had personal issues to work out. Does the whole SA management need to be cleaned out from the top down? There's certainly talent but rarely is there results.

    Re: South Australia

It's an interesting question but I'm not sure if anything is really clear why they are struggling so much. Normally a rebuilding side would be focused on 4 or 5 youngish players but they seem to have fallen for the trap of nabbing recycled players from other states and it isn't working for them. Losing Ryan Harris to QLD hurts and I suppose not having Gillespie in the side isn't helping either.

They might be best to cut some of the more senior guys and just see if they can unearth some younger guys.

NSW are struggling at the moment with a few players in India and couple more injured but at least their youngsters have some upside. SA on the other hand are showing nothing.

If they're going to bring in players like Younis Khan and Allan Wise they deserve all they get.

One thing i find perplexing is Cullen Bailey's refusal to play for another state. He can't even get a bowl in the reserves because Dan Cullen is there.

These two will suffocate eachother's careers.

If he wants to play test cricket, NSW, obviously.

The young, 22 year old paceman George (202cm giant) had an alright first out hit up yesterday.

The only time they have ever done well is when hey have imported stars eg Sobers, Garner.

They have just wasted 2 years having Marsh sit there as high Performance Manager and achieving absolutely zero.

The problem begins with a week Grade cricket competiton which has too many teams allowing soft performances to shine. Also, the pitches at grade level are low and slow and do not resemble first class wickets in any way.

Victoria would be a good bet. Even if McGain wasn't injured he can't have lasted too long at his age leaving bugger all in terms of spinners.

He took a couple of wickets. I'm just not convinced he is what we're after in the test side. He has a few wicket taking weapons, but his consistency is a major issue. India would've been his go with the reverse swing.

I'd like to see him play a few ODI over summer, and if he is looking good, perhaps bring him back into the test side.

The best performed SA bowler was George who was also on debut. Meanwhile Hilfy cleaned up with (I think) a 5/ in the second innings.

I agree he has a long way to go, I was thinking longer term than this summer. His swing would be ideal on English wickets.
