It's a bit like Michael Bevan, so many times he saved the Aussies off his own bat, yet was always critisized for being selfish and batting down the order, Micky Bevan would NEVER have been given a choice either way, he played that position better than anyone, his average was somewhere around the 55 mark, yet, still copped a battering from many "arm chair" experts!Comment

Bevan was very suspect against the short, rising ball. It's great getting lot's of red ink and smashing below par attacks all over the place but when the pressures on and the quicks are going for the jugular you've got to be able to put your body and head behind the line of the ball.
Bevan, for whatever reason, couldnt do that. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

I can assure you Bevan was placed in extremely pressured situations, for mine, i actually found it easier coming in first up and facing that rising new ball, it made you really have to focus, which in effect made the job alot easier than waiting & waiting to go in to a messy situation made from the top order, and having the dig the team out of that......that is pressure.
Ill take the opening position anyday of the week.Comment

Greg Chappell once said it was much better coming in at 1/0 than 2/7 and that's why he loved to bat #3.They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Needless to say, Bevan never had it easy! he played his role better than most, which is why he stayed in the position for so long.Comment
