All fast bowlers have injury concerns but that shouldnt mean that you just let someone else take your spot in the side. You earn that Baggy Green with lots of hard work, talent and balls of steel. Watson never seemed to do much to earn his-he just seemed to get picked on potential and I dont think he has much idea of the honour and, more importantly, the responsinilty that comes with being a member of the Australian test team.
Maybe thats the problem, Watson never seemed to have to really earn his spot to respect his position?

    Maybe he's just too nice?

Soft isn't the right word for a fast bowler though.

      I think that's exactly Watson's problem-easy come, easy go.

I remember hearing him say that he was comfortable with Symonds coming in and taking his spot and thinking back to Dennis Lillees comment about 'never giving a sucker a break' when (I think) Carl Rackemann was on standby because DK was injured. Lillee's point was that his spot meant evrything to him and if Rackemann wanted it then he'd have to earn it-they werent given away. I just dont see that passion in Watson or Tate.

You're probably right about the word 'soft' and using it to describe any cricketer whether it be the wicketkeeper with knees and fingers that dont work, spinners with destroyed shoulders and calloused fingers or batsmen with bad backs and eyes.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

        Agree 100%.

Just didn't think soft was the right word.

Go see them in the physio's room early on a saturday morning getting the back cracked into place, perparing for the game on the same day, or lying down with ice packs on the shoulder or back hours after a days play and label them soft!
You misunderstood what I was saying. Read GVGjr original post. That is what I am replying to.

Interesting to hear in the news that Shane Watson was SHATTERED at hearing that he had been dropped from the squad!

Do you expect him to be happy?

I would be pretty pissed off if I was in his position as he has every reason to fell that he has been let down by the selectors and captain.

Yes it is a bit interesting especially since it was reported that he seemed happy to move aside for Symonds in the first test.

He was probably always more likely to be 12th man for this test so hopefully he can get a game for the Bulls and make some runs.

It's good to hear that his omission is hurting because he will just strive so much harder when he gets his next chance.

Absolutely....I was sticking up for Watson & Tait, because they were being labelled soft for not giving a hoot about giving up his spot in the side!
