    Slips Catching

How good have South Africa's slips cordon been in this series? Another regulation catch taken to dismiss Katich. They make the regulation catches look simple & have been able to hang onto a few pearlers.

McKenzie is the only one I can think off who has grassed one there & he's not usually in slips; Kallas was off injured & he went into 3rd slip & De Villiers moved across to 2nd slip.

Smith, De Villiers & Kallas have been terrific behind the wicket so far this series.

Fantastic catching behind the wicket from all of the Proteas, but De Villiers in particular. If you edge one wide to 2nd, you'd just about walk straight off without even looking to see if it went to hand.

Johnty Rhodes was a bit before my time, but I can't imagine him being any better than A.B.

Jonty was a more square of the wicket fielder who stopped anything & everything hit near him. It wasn't so much his catching, more his athleticism & speed to cut balls off & effect run outs.

Exactly - like comparing Symonds to Mark Waugh in the field. Symonds square is a jet - Waugh in slips never dropped a thing.

Waugh could field anywhere, he was amazing in the field.

Rhodes was the best run stopper I have ever seen. It was like having 2 blokes at point.

The SA team has caught and converted it's chances much the good Australian teams. They dropped one today in the slips and one in the field last night but they are a quality fielding team.

Rhodes was a brilliant fielder, MWaugh could field anywhere and Roger Harper was probably like Symonds and he had one of the best throwing arms I have seen.

the super cat, Lloyd, was to young to see him in his prime but apparently was just phenominal stalking the covers, finished up in the slips and gully from memory and you didnt see him drop many, how long were his arms?

Richards is one of my all time fave cricketer ever, was just awesome in the field
