For me it sounds like someone making excuses. Everyone knows the cricket calender is overcrowded but it is the players who ultimately make the decision to play.

But who is that someone? A jurno wrote the article, is anyone quoted of importance quoted?

It's an observation not an excuse. Some players needed the break and others took the money and played. The ones that rested up have performed though. It's just food for thought not an excuse.

Having said that, blokes like Symonds, Ponting, Hayden, all played only half the IPL season. Off the top of my head they would have played about 4 games each, which, in reality, adds up to about a day's play of a test match.

Wouldn't surprise me if it affected some of our players. Many are about 32+ and when we almost lost against Bangladesh it was blamed on fatigue after a long schedule indicating they need their rest.
