I think I see where Lantern's going with this. Deep down narcissist's wouldnt see themselves as truly worthwile and all that self focus is really a displacement statergy*.

*If it made sense we wouldn't need therapists to explain it.

Could be, but sometimes narcissists do not even have the contextual awareness to realise they are narcissists. (I'm talking clinical diagnosis here, not so much about guys who just can't stop talking about themselves.)

*Coincidentally, my sister in law is a psychologist, and I tutored epistemology and existentialism subjects for a few years in the philosophy department at university in my postgraduate days.
