    Your worst Australia XI

Criteria - since you've been watching and has to have played a test.

From memory there were some bad ones during WSC.

This one is thrown together quickly.

    Rick Darling
    Andrew Hilditch
    Craig Seargent
    Greg Ritchie
    Dirk Welham
    Shaun Young
    Greg Dyer(WK)
    Chris Matthews
    Scott Muller
    Jo Angel
    Bob Holland

Taylor the red headed spinner they pulled out of nowhere, couldnt bat against my mother and only got wickets on pitches that my mum would get wickets on too, eg Sydney in THE spinner days.
Graeme Wood, the run out king.

My memory of watching test cricket only really begins in the late 80's (and even that's a bit hazy). There have been plenty of dud bowlers who have pulled on the baggy green in my time, but not too many batsmen as the batting line-up has always been settled and successful (up until recently anyway).

I would like to throw up a nomination of Shaun Tait though; 3 tests with a bowling average over 60. Will have to play more tests if he is to redeem himself.

Some others in the mix could be Gavin Robertson, Dan Cullen & Paul Wilson.

Agree with the final 3. Lee should have been picked over Muller for the game. Bad decision by the selectors.
Peter Macintyre, Stuart Law (good state player) and Phil Emery.
Chris Rogers one match was pretty unmemorable although he is a fantastic player at state level.

I think it's a testiment to our batting stocks not too many batsmen come to mind, while our bowlers are not quite as strong. Or that batsmen do not get sacked, moved on or retire unless they want to while bowlers get chopped easily...

Wayne Phillips (Victorian- not the SA batsman/wk)
            Paul Hibbert
            David Ogilvie
            Trevor Laughlin
            Phil Carlson
            Roger Woolley
            Simon O'Donnell
            Gavin Robertson
            Dave Gilbert
            Chris Matthews
            Scott Muller

            12th Man Mike Veletta

Now many of these guys were very good 1st class cricketers over a long period of time such as Dave Gilbert, Chris Matthews, O'Donnell, Woolley, Veletta & Hibbert, but were found out in their Test Careers. That's what I'm looking at here, is Worst Aussie Test Cricketers, of my era (late 70's to current). I'm not including their ODI careers, of which some of these had more respectable careers in.
No surprise the majority of this team either gained selection as a result of the World Series exodus, or due to the Rebel Tour bans.

Peter Taylor went OK I thought, I'd pick him over Peter Sleep or Murray Bennet any day.

And Graeme Wood for me, redeemed himself with a couple of his innings against the Mighty Windies. To score 2 centuries against the Windies at the height of their power was no mean feat. And overall he scored 9 Test centuries. Plenty of other players who had worse careers for Australia than Wood.

Ok...this is only since around 2002-ish, so don't be too harsh...btw its on a spinning deck in the sub-continent, which explains the top heavy bowling line up

                Rogers
                Elliot
                Love
                Haddin (+)
                Symonds
                White
                Casson
                Hauritz
                Cullen
                Williams
                Tait

                Geez that was hard.

We've had some bloody consistent bats recently haven't we?

Did he play? I remember his WSC career, wasn't he picked for a test, then did his back and never played again?
