I think they have to come after our loss to NZ, that was an embarresment and surely changes have to be made. Its time to send Warner back to NSW, im beginning to think he may have just been a flash in the pan, I'd call up Hughes to take his place. David Hussey has had a long attempting at making number 6 his own but has done little I'm not sure he has the ability to become an international cricketer and his age is against him, Id play White at 6. I think its time to bite the bullet and play Krejza over Hopes. Hopes has been consistent but we need a wicketaker. I also think Hilfenhaus offers more to the team then Tait. Are there any changes you would like to see made to the one day outfit?

Re: Changes to the one day side

 Didn't Marsh pull a hammy?

If so, maybe Hughes and Warner to open?

I love Dhuss, but i tend to agree that he needs to start making the kin of runs he has been making for Victoria.

I think Tait, Hilfy, Johnson and Bracken offer a good quick bowling squad for ODIs. Clark can't play ODIs and perhaps Lee may come back into contention.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023

Re: Changes to the one day side

“The National Selection Panel has selected a squad of 13 players for the next two Commonwealth Bank Series games. There are two changes to the squad. Shaun Marsh has been ruled out with a hamstring injury and, consistent with Cricket Australia’s policy on managing player workload, Ricky Ponting has not been named in this squad.

“Naturally, as Australian captain, Ricky is keen to play every game and these next two games were no exception. However, it was always planned that Ricky would have a break at this time. While this is a difficult decision for the NSP, given the current performance of the team, in our view it is essential that Ricky has an opportunity to prepare for the forthcoming South Africa tour given his immense workload since the start of the India tour in late September last year.

“Adam Voges and Callum Ferguson are additions to the squad. Both Adam and Callum are having very strong Ford Ranger Cup seasons. While it is a difficult time for the side it is very important that we continue to show faith and support this young side as we rebuild.

“We believe that this group can get the job done against New Zealand. Adam Voges has been recalled after limited opportunities in the past and Callum Ferguson has been added for the first time to an Australian squad. Both are exciting young players with the attitude and talent to succeed at this level.”

Re: Changes to the one day side

Im not sure why Hughes hasnt been selected. He scores his runs quickly and IMO is the future of Australian cricket and our next long term opener. He may not provide the explosivness but it would be excellent international experience against a fairly weak bowling attack. He still has the ability to accumulate runs at a decent strike rate. Voges is a good domestic player but im not sure he can transfer that into the international scene.Comment

He's probably another one to have a think about if Ponting was playing I'd say we wouldnt need him but with Ponting out his experience could be valuable. I just think this could be a good time to blood Hughes.Comment

Re: Changes to the one day side

I find the selection of Voges interesting when his first class scores this year have returned:

3 scores over 50 with a highest score of 80*
 6 scores under 10 and
 a highest score under 50 of 32

 all this from 13 innings!!!!

Hughes on the other hand has:

 12 scores over 50 plus 4 0ver 100 with a highet score of 198
8 scores under 10 (his first five innings for the season totalled 24 then he teed off)

 from 29 innings

The selectors' attitude towards Hughes would have seen the careers of Harvey and Walters etc held back for yearsLast edited by LostDoggy; 03-02-2009, 11:20 AM.Comment
