So who will be relegated?

Here's how the table stands at present:

Blackburn Rovers 40pts, GD -16, GS 39
Bolton Wanderers 39pts, GD -11, GS 40
Portsmouth 38pts, GD -17, GS 35
Sunderland 36pts, GD -15, GS 31
Newcastle United 34pts, GD -14, GS 40

* The bottom three teams will be automatically relegated to the Championship.
* If two or more teams finish level on points the team with the better goal difference will finish higher.
* If two or more teams have the same points and the same goal difference, the team which has scored the higher number of goals will finish higher.
* If two or more teams finish level on points, goal difference and goals scored, and the championship, a relegation place or European qualification is at stake, they will then play off to decide who finishes higher.

I can't see any changes happening, so by my reckoning, the bottom 3 teams can kiss the Premier League goodbye.

I thinke one of Newcastle or Middlesborough will advance at Hull's expense, on the provisdo that one of them gets maximum points when they play each other in a couple of weeks - Hull have won 2 matches in 25 weeks and don't look like achieving a positive result at the moment. Newcastle and Borough both have similarly tough runs home but they have the capability to gain another 4 to 5 points which might well be enough - I can't see Hull getting more than 1 or 2 points from now on.

Stoke have managed to survive on the one tactic - the long Rory Delap throw. Amazing effort by Tony Pulis and ther players if they manage to keep their heads above water.

If, and I say IF, Man Utd have won the title by the final round and they are still alive in Europe, will Fergie turn out a side similar to the one that played Everton in the Cup semi to rest his players, giving Hull City a chance to pull off a remarkable final day escape. Intriguing.

Villa is 5th and on paper looks like a tough opponent, but they are on the bottom of the 'form table' for the whole league, and haven't won in 12 games (all comps). Hull Boro and NU all get a crack at them over the last 4 games, so there is some points to be had there.

It's pretty much as you were after this week. Amazingly, 8 out of the bottom 9 all lost, only Bolton eeking out a draw. Blackburn were the only team in the bottom 9 to score a goal.

Geez, the sadist in me wants to get up and watch that, just so I can see the pain etched on the supporters faces with it all pretty much hanging on the result from this game.

FWIW i hope the baggies escape!!!

It is one advantage that Euro football has over Aussie rules, the relegation battles... if a team is down the bottom, the relegation penalty is much worse than it is for our footy clubs. Tanking?? Theres no point and the integrity of the competition doesnt suffer.......

Massive, massive win by Newcastle this morning over Boro 3-1. The win lifts them out of the relegation zone.
