Kaka completes move to Real Madrid

Kaka completes move to Real Madrid

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Kaka from AC Milan on a six-year contract.

The Spanish giants confirmed the eagerly-awaited capture of the 27-year-old Brazilian superstar in a brief statement on their website late on Monday night.

Kaka, currently on international duty with Brazil in his homeland, underwent a medical in Recife earlier on Monday before putting pen to paper on a six-year deal.

The transfer fee is expected to be new world record at around £56million, eclipsing the £48million Real paid Juventus for Zinedine Zidane in the summer of 2001.

Kaka is expected to be unveiled at the Santiago Bernabeu towards the end of this month, once he's finished Confederations Cup duty with his country in South Africa.

A statement on the Milan website meanwhile read: "From next season, Kaka will play at Real Madrid.

"AC Milan thanked the man and the great champion Kaka for his decisive contribution to the many victories achieved in the six years of his commitment

"The loss technique, while serious, can be remedied.

"It will be very difficult to fill the void that will be left by Kak, a shining example of professionalism, commitment and professionalism.

"AC Milan, (according to) the wishes of the managers, players and supporters of the Rossoneri, offer him the most cordial and affectionate wishes for the continuation of his sporting career."

Now Real have concluded their first major piece of business this summer, president Florentino Perez is expected to turn his attentions to a concerted bid to prise Cristiano Ronaldo away from Manchester United.

Definitely a too good offer to refuse with AC Milan's current financial situation. They paid a paltry 7 million pounds for him and sold him for a reported 60 million pounds. Not a bad little profit.

They will now need to ensure they can hold onto Pato who at 19 has all the makings of superstar.

With Kaka moving on, maybe it leaves an opening for Ronaldinho to step up and fill the creative void. No doubt has the talent just needs to get back some hunger.

Sorry for any offence caused to any fans of the roundball game... but the name KAKA is hilarious. Childish, yes, but funny just the same. Kind of the soccer version of surnames like DICK, GOLDSACK and the like...

Not a fan of the game, but they have some funny names... and while I'm on it, why are they frequently referred to using just one name?

Kaka is Brazilian. They are always known by names such as Pele, Socrates, Ronaldhino, Romario, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Fred, Juhninio, Zico, Dunga, Cafu etc...

I notice that... is it a cultural thing to only use the surname? Or is that a first name? (kind of like in Australian culture, we have a footballer only referred to as "Taylor Walker"!!!

Now that I think about it (seriously for a minute!) there is an NBA player who is Brazilian, his name is Nene - apparently means 'baby' in Portuguese...

EDIT - just did a bit of Googling... apparently Kaka is a nickname, like Nene... so there you go... you learn something everyday!

The convention in Brazilian society is that nicknames and first names are used in all settings, even formal. Even their president goes by a nickname.

They also have very long names so it makes sense to shorten it (e.g. Pele's full names is 'Edison Arantes do Nascimento', Kaka's full name is 'Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite' ... I'd like to see those on the back of a shirt).

Some times they can get two players with the same nickname and they make subtle changes (e.g. Ronaldo (the fat one) was already established when another Ronalado (buck teeth) came along, so they called him Ronaldinho which means little Ronaldo.

They could use really, really, really small font..like on the jumpers of the All Stars in the dream team game!
                      Thanks for the lesson!

I have wondered (silently!) about the Ronaldo thing...even with my limited knowledge of the game, I was sure there were two!

There's also Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal if that makes things easier.
