Melbourne Storm star Greg Inglis charged with assaulting girlfriend


The spectacular rugby league career of Greg Inglis hangs in the balance after the Melbourne Storm star was charged with assaulting his girlfriend and then suspended by the club indefinitely on Monday.

Capping a horrendous year for NRL poster-boys, Inglis was arrested and charged for an alleged assault that reportedly left his girlfriend with a black eye.

Arguably the game's biggest talent and world's best player, Inglis joins a long list of NRL stars to have disgraced the game in 2009.

Being a Storm member, I am shattered that this has happened. Please remember that there are many players in the NRL who are decent men. Unfortunately Storm can win two premierships and not make front page of the paper, but this does. I am in no way making excuses, what GI did was wrong.

I agree but....there is defiantly a vastly higher portion of meat heads in the NRL. Regardless of how the whole issue resurfaced that Matthew Johns incident showed that players have a keep it in house culture and think they are above common decency and even the law. The real problem is that often their partners and the clubs just accept it unless it get too hot.

This story took an interesting turn today with speculation now that Inglis was actually attempting to stop his GF committing self-harm (I can only assume this means she was attempting to kill herself).

Let's just hope they're both ok, and as Brian Waldron asked, the media leave them alone. I can't remember Storm ever getting so much space in the Herald Sun.
