To me it seems that no-one really cares too much about this OD series, I no I don't.

I think within about 2 or 3 years the 50-over version of the game might be done.

Australia has a very depleted squad and England is just awful in this form of the game. No wonder not much interest is being shown. Cam White is doing well at number 3 but Englad are that bad that its hard to read much into it. I certainly dont see him doing that role into the future.

If it was played on the paddock across the road from my house I wouldn't even bother to open the curtains to watch it.

You're right Mantis, ODI's are like Matthew Lloyd; well & truly cooked.

It's a shame as I think T20 is crap and there needs to be something in additon to tests. And at this rate things will keep getting sped up to the point we'll just bowl one delivery to see who wins because our attention span as a race is dwindling in this new "me" "now" age where interest doesn't outlast the simplest thought. Perhaps dump all semi-long sport for high card/low card. Admittadly the ICC and captains and players haven't helped the cause which is annoying because ODIs are losing credibility.

Truth be told I haven't paid attention to them really either, except to see if the guy who has scored 200 runs in 3 games at no.3 is removed from the spot and whether Hussey remains. Just so i can get more annoyed at the dickhead selectors.

This is my idea for ODI's in the future. Please note I came up with this during mad monday and have not thought through the details or ramifications in any shape or form.

Basically I want fielding restrictions in for all but the last 10 overs. This makes it even more of a batting game which I dont really like. As a trade off for the batting side getting 40 overs with only 2 players outside the circle we get the pitches juiced up

I have absolutely no idea how it would be monitored or kept in check but I think playing on pitches with a bit of life in them wold make things more interesting. The balance of having the prospect of hitting boundaries but the risk of getting a nick or losing your off stump really appeals to me. The boring middle part of the game will also dissapear. It sounds absolutely ridiculous but if it could be done I honestly think it would make ODI's vastly more interesting.

I've enjoyed the games in this series so far because there has been something for both the batsman and the bowlers. Seeing White handle the bat so well has also given me hope that he could get back into the Test side as a batsman.

I hope he pushes himself up the order for the Vic's.

I always thought that the field restrictions should be more gradual.

2 fielders out for the first 15 overs
3 fielders out for the next 10 overs
4 fielders out for the next 10 overs
5 fielders out for the last 15 overs

They are definitly the main problem with the game. I just dont know how you get the batsmen playing shots all the way through while still giving the bowlers a chance. You dont want to increase fielding restrictions to the point where 350-400 is the par score but at the moment the fielding restrictions are making the middle part of the innings a joke unless you have an absolute top notch spinner operating.

They have to work something out because I cant watch T20 and the tests are not on often enough. Need something watchable on in between.

Another solid win last night. Lee taking 5 wickets and Hauritz bowling very tightly and grabbing 2 wickets.
Paine got his first 50 with the bat.

I watched a bit of that game last night, don't mind the look of Paine [parden the pun] as a batsman, didn't see him behind the stumps, watching Punter & Clarke bat, it was like watching a practice match of sorts, they could only get themselves out if they ever were, and Punter did, looked very confident, had his mojo back.

Brett Lee clean bowling out 5 Poms, he was bowling pretty well, although like with the batting, the Poms had a second rate side in, but, someone still has to take the wickets, and watching a fast bowler continually cleaning up the timber is a great sight, as a fast bowler, there is no better feeling.

Great wasn't it. From the little snapshot i've seen, one could argue his glove work is better than Haddin.

Nice century by Paine and he's shaping up as a genuine contender to replace Haddin.
