Re: Man City Sack Mark Hughes
It’s a big decision but not really surprising or unjust… Blind freddy and his pet bulldog could take the Citeh squad to 6th – with the talent they have its no great achievement. The big issue is they need a manager that can garner the respect of the big name players, because as many posters have outlined, the expectations are incredible with so much cash being flung around.
I think the best way to judge the situation is to see how Mancini goes as he’s a big name coach with the results on the board. Hughes was out of his depth and always going against the tide. Long term he might have been been good, but coming from little old Blackburn to a cashed up Citeh wasn’t ever going to cut unless they stormed to the title!
So to be it frank he wasn’t up to the job. He was also a little too big for his boots at times recently portraying an arrogance to wave off Wenger after a miserly Carling Cup victory – yes Carling Cup – the equivalent to the AFL pre-season comp. Compounding this is that he has made some howler signings too. Although some are decent to good players, he paid way over the odds to get Toure, Adebayor, Bridge, Santa Cruz, Lescott and De jong. Their best players have been Barry, Given and Bellamy – three of the cheaper buys.
Anyway the recent developments are good for all other challenges as this is surely set to take them a good few weeks to settle in and create any decent momentum.
