Re: Man City Sack Mark Hughes

It’s a big decision but not really surprising or unjust… Blind freddy and his pet bulldog could take the Citeh squad to 6th – with the talent they have its no great achievement. The big issue is they need a manager that can garner the respect of the big name players, because as many posters have outlined, the expectations are incredible with so much cash being flung around.

I think the best way to judge the situation is to see how Mancini goes as he’s a big name coach with the results on the board. Hughes was out of his depth and always going against the tide. Long term he might have been been good, but coming from little old Blackburn to a cashed up Citeh wasn’t ever going to cut unless they stormed to the title!

So to be it frank he wasn’t up to the job. He was also a little too big for his boots at times recently portraying an arrogance to wave off Wenger after a miserly Carling Cup victory – yes Carling Cup – the equivalent to the AFL pre-season comp. Compounding this is that he has made some howler signings too. Although some are decent to good players, he paid way over the odds to get Toure, Adebayor, Bridge, Santa Cruz, Lescott and De jong. Their best players have been Barry, Given and Bellamy – three of the cheaper buys.

Anyway the recent developments are good for all other challenges as this is surely set to take them a good few weeks to settle in and create any decent momentum.

It's the right decision. Mark Hughes isn't a good enough manager for a club aspiring to reach the top and really he should have been sacked at the end of last season which was a complete failure on his part.

This season after 1 win in 10 games I can't believe anyone would question the decision.

I think it's a harsh decision I mean it's basically a new squad. How in blazes is Hughes meant to garner a new squad to win instantly. Just trigger happy mega rich oil money talking.

The money doesn't get poured into a club like that without high expectations, whether the expectations are warranted or not is another story but the owner will still want to see results and there will pressure to perform.

Yes, only 2 losses for the season is not bad when looking at the overall picture however when looking at the way they have been playing and the fact they were only able to win something like 1 of their past 10 considering the talent they have I would consider disappointing.

You can see how and why they have come to their decision and they probably felt Mancini could take them to another level.

Disagree. Their best players have been the ones from last season and he bought players from the Premier League so that they wouldn't have to take as long to gel. There were quite a few pointless purchases and Hughes' desperation to keep Robinho despite his poor form and not wanting to be there has caused more problems than good for City.

Whether it's the right or wrong decision the cold hard fact is that it was always going to happen as soon as the big money starting pouring into the club. Mark Hughes just didnt have the international profile to head up a big club. It doesnt matter if it's fair or not, it just is.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

True but that begs the question as to why it wasn't done a lot earlier.

Me either. If you are going to make an unpopular decision then it should be made sooner rather than later. The only reason I can think they acted now is because the transfer window is about to open (isnt it?) and the Mancini name carries more plaudits than Hughes.

It's a new squad and as much as it pains me Tevez has been a good purchase as has Given. I agree he has had some flops but not the lone ranger there. I actually believe Robinho thought he was going to ''Manchester'' of the red varietyThey've started well but haven't played anybody of note

Re: Man City Sack Mark Hughes

Robinho thought he was going to Chelsea which is pretty well documented.

They were drawing against worse teams under Mark Hughes.

I still don't buy the new squad bit. He bought expensive players all from the EPL so there wouldn't need to be an adjustment period and their defense was terrible. The decision to purchase an "upgrade" for Dunne was staggering and whilst he is in Villa's best 3 players City's central defense is struggling big time. Mancini has come in and made some tactical changes and already they are keeping clean sheets.

Tevez was ordinary before December but has been in great form for the past month. Saved Hughes even more embarrassment.
