Re: Has Steve Rixon been drinking for 5 years straight?

Funny that i heard them say today he goes too far to the offside and misses a lot of balls down the legside he should get to.

 Even showed it on replays.

Would like to see how he would go with a good spinner, i think that gives you the real deal, pity Haddin doesnt have a Warne to help compare.

Think Rixon has been on the hooch too.Bring back the biff

Re: Has Steve Rixon been drinking for 5 years straight?

My ex-inlaws are Polish and man could they drink. I think that Rixon must have spent new years eve with them.

A lot of ex-players do seem to have it in for Gilchrist though, even in his playing days. It was like they were just waiting for him to fumble so they could start bagging him. Personally I think he was great standing up to the stumps to the spinners and medium pacers and standing back he always took the ball on the rise.

I think that Haddin's problem is he stands too far back. He really needs to take a step forward and take the ball on the up. I think it's affecting North's fielding at first slip as well. North might just be a lousy slipper but it's hard to tell because he's so far back that the ball is hitting the ground by the time it gets to him. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: Has Steve Rixon been drinking for 5 years straight?

I don't think it's fair to blame North's 1st slip position on Haddin. North stands about twice as far back from the keeper as most 1st slippers do. I just think North doesn't have much of a clue at it.My ex-inlaws are Polish and man could they drink. I think that Rixon must have spent new years eve with them.

Yep, you might well be right. I'd just like the 'keeper to stand in the correct position. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

I've never kept, so I'm not too sure. But Haddin appears to do an excellent job behind the stumps and has done well as Gilchrist's replacement - but I agree with the OP that he is far from being as good a player as Gilly was.Comment

Re: Has Steve Rixon been drinking for 5 years straight?

1st slip position is a lot to do with where the keeper stands,he is forced to stand behind him so they do not get in the way when diving for a ball, yes he might be standing too far back, but in my experience the keeper has still told the 1st slipper where he feels he should be, its called communication.

Both are to blame if North stands too far back.Bring back the biffComment

Re: Has Steve Rixon been drinking for 5 years straight?

Sounds as though he has been on one hell of a bender!

Interesting he didn't mention Haddin and the fact that he tends to get his gloves in front of the stumps at times when recieving the ball, something that should have been knocked out of his game from the early days.

I'm actually more of a fan of his batting than his glovework, he is just a great batsman to watch, similar in many ways to Mark Waugh, but that said, he's no Gilly!Comment

Re: Has Steve Rixon been drinking for 5 years straight?

The basic rule when standing back to the quicks is you should be taking the ball on the up-that is while the ball is still in it's upward trajectory. Basically you should be either collecting the ball in front of your face with the gloves up or with your elbows cocked almost at your shoulder level with the ball thudding into your gloves if you want to keep your hands down.

Haddin takes far too many balls around his ankles or, even worse, on the bounce. The 'keeper's positioning is vital to the teams fielding efforts. He decides where/how far back the slips stand, and frankly if the 'keeper is off his game then the rest of the team tends to field poorly. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment
