Never saw Laver play. It's all a big joke this state patriotism IMO.

Laver was a Queenslander-EJ is a native Victorian who now lives in Adelaide. What's state patriotism got to do with it?


When Federer has won two Grand Slams then we can compare him to Laver, until then Fed's just the second best player of all time.

When Federer has won two Grand Slams then we can compare him to Laver, until then Fed's just the second best player of all time.

Laver won the Grand Slam in 63 (I think, maybe 62) and then turned professional. Professionals were not allowed to compete in the majors until 1969.

Allowed back into the field in 69, Laver promptly won the Grand Slam again, so in effect he won (at least) 8 majors in a row that he was entitled to compete in.

I went last night.

RF is a bona fide freak.

He just makes everything look effortless. Every time you thought Joe was in front in a rally, RF would just go whack and it was all over.

Best tennis player I have ever seen by a long, long way and from what we see a great bloke as well.

It was a pleasure to watch the master at work last night.
