Ranking the Batsman, keepers and all-rounders

Is anyone prepared to have a crack at ranking the 10 Australian batsman, the top 5 wicket keepers and the top 5 all-rounders?

I probably should have been a bit clearer here. You can have guys like Watson in the batsman and the all-rounders categories

Re: Ranking the Batsman, keepers and all-rounders

          Batsman
          1 - Watson
          2 - Clarke
          3 - Katich
          4 - Klinger
          5 - Ponting
          6 - Hussey
          7 - Rogers
          8 - White
          9 - North
          10 - Hughes

Hodge would be in the list if he hadn't retired. I nearly found a spot of Paine because his batting has been right up there with the best.

          Wicket keepers
          1 - Haddin
          2 - Paine
          3 - Wade
          4 - Manou
          5 - Ronchi

          All-rounders
          1 - Watson
          2 - McDonald
          3 - Smith
          4 - Hastings
          5 - Hopes

GVG, you have 4 batsman in your top 10 who aren't even regulars at international level (inc. 1 who hasn't debuted and doesn't look likely to in the near future).

Either you're mad, or the selection committee is getting it completely wrong.

The challenge for you is to come up with a better list

The thing is that we all know that the Australian side is balanced for what they need to to place test cricket and the 5 day game. Is Klinger a better overall bat than North? In my opinion the answer is yes. It's not however, clear if Klinger is a better number 6 than North

I definitely should have had Johnson at number 2.

I would have thought Klinger would have been ahead of at least Carseldine.
Carseldine been in great form but Klinger has been a run machine.

A lot has to do with which form of the game we are rating the players on.

Taking mighty_west's list as an example if we are basing players on SS performance Rogers would have to be rated much higher than White & Carseldine.

                          Bats:

                          1. Katich
                          2. Watson
                          3. Ponting
                          4. Clarke
                          5. Klinger
                          6. Rogers
                          7. Jacques
                          8. White
                          9. M.Hussey
                          10. Haddin

Apologies to D.Hussey. Hodgey would definitely get on the list, probably around 5 or 6. If we were going with in their prime, easily in the top 3 with Ponting and M.Huss.

Yeah it's a tough one, almost impossible really to make judgements given how different all forms of the game are.

Also is it going by form right now? or overall? in which case Ponting would be by far the stand out, not so much just going by form right now, and you'd probably have to have Watson as numero Uno, given his recent form, Clarke has arguably been the best overall in 2009 and Katich our best bat before that time.

GVGjr, i've been a fan of Carseldines for a while now, probably more so than Klinger, so i probably rate him ahead with bias more than anything, however given his age, he'd never be considered to play for Australia today, where's Klinger could be a chance.

I was wondering why Mitch wasn't getting a look in as an all rounder.

Watson has clearly shot ahead of him though at present, given great form with the bat & very good form with ball, where's Mitch has been struggling a bit, especially with the bat.

I just wonder, if there was a draft right now, who would people select first, Mitch Johnson or Shane Watson?
