    Invading the ground

This used to be a bigger issue years back but it's still unacceptable for spectators to invade the grounds and even more so to touch a player.

What would be a reasonable penalty to ensure that a few spectators don't ruin a game for the majority and to ensure the players safety ?

I'd propose a $5,000 fine for invading the ground and another $5,000 fine for touching a player.

I'd also ban the spectator from going to the games for 10 years.

    Thoughts?

I wonder what would have happened if we were playing in Pakistan if one of their spectators touched one of our players?

Ponting said he would have pulled the players off the ground if it was us bowling and it would have been end of game.

I agree with GVGjr's suggested penalties

He'd need a fairly sturdy ladder! Anyway one of those blokes carrying a SLR or an uzzi on the boundary would bring him down berore he got within cooee of the players.

In all seriousness it is unacceptable for spectators to be on the field of play during a match. I'd reckon a ban from the ground and a fine somewhere in the 5-10 K region.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Once someone cops that sort of fine then this problem will just about go away. We never want to get to the big security fence situation that so many grounds around the world have but we need to deter this now before someone gets hurt and it becomes compulsory.
Clearly the current warnings aren't a sufficient deterrent.

He should be made to face Tait in the nets with no protective gear, no gloves, no pads, no box...just his bat.

Serious answer, massive fine, $10,000 running on the ground, an extra $20,000 on top of that for making contact with a player or official, perhaps even so many hours of some kind of community work as well for the second offence.

I'd add a ban in there as well, but how would they actually police that? Im sure he wouldn't be going back to a game this season anyway, whats to stop him going back in 3 or 4 seasons if he does get a 10 year ban from the ground?

Pretty steep but it would certainly have the friends of these fools trying to talk them out of it rather than encouraging them.
It's nearly always booze related so of course there will be some that say that no alcohol consumption at the ground would be a big step.

Has to be steep, running on a ground is one thing, but to make some sort of contact like the other night, a far more serious incident, we all remember what happened to Terry Alderman, and we don't want barbed wired fences up in Australia.

My opinions is that you punish the idiots with a sledgehammer, and not punish the wider community that go & enjoy their game, and might enjoy 3 or 4 beers rather than 10 or 15.

Problem there is that if he stood still and pretended to be a set of stumps he'd be safe as houses .

The guy got a $500 fine and a life ban from the WACA.
I'd say his mates would have dared him with the reward to at least cover that fine and big deal about the life ban-are they going to scan everyone coming in?

The WACA should be fined for providing piss poor security.

The day I went to the Boxing Day test (2nd day??) an invader ran across the ground and probably covered 200m (dodging 3 or 4 would-be tacklers along the way).

I wonder if the MCG copped a fine?

                        Re: Invading the ground

The grounds need to recruit some fitter security staff. Most of them are tubs of lard that have no chance of stopping an invader one on one.

All they're good for is digging a knee in when they hit the turf.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

He didn't tackle a paki did he? Also I think the personal fine is 5K not 500. It wasn't publicized but if it's a regular occurance I see no prob fining the mcg either.

I saw briefly on Fox Sports news that he's been charged with assault. I think having a criminal record may deter others.

If its a decent looking naked lass, the fine would be $0 and a round of applause

Im pretty sure over here in the west its 5k, well at least at SUBI it is.

Im not sure about everyone else here, but I get a good laugh watching the obese security personnel trying to track down and stop ground invaders. But as stated, touching players is a definitely off the cards and extreme fines should be applied.

Maybe they should employ Andrew Symonds to tackle invaders? That was gold!
