    Ice Hockey

Not sure if anyone else follows this sport, but i thought i would put it out there anyway.

We have a pretty good AIHL (Australian Ice Hockey League) in the country, with some players from overseas coming here during the off season, to keep fit & continue playing.

Melbourne Ice are currently flying along, sitting on top of the table.

Also for people who like sport in general, come down next year and check out some International hockey. News recently released over the weekend, that the new Ice House will be hosting its first International tournament.

    Date: May 22, 2010

Ice Hockey Australia won the rights to host the IIHF's World 2011 Division II Group A Championships at the IIHF's 2010 Annual Congress in Cologne, Germany.

The Championships are scheduled to be held at the new Docklands Ice House, Melbourne, Australia from the 03 - 11 April 2011. The participating teams are (in order of ranking): Serbia / Australia / Belgium / New Zealand / Mexico / DPR Korea.

IHA President, Don Rurak, stated: "It was a close contest against Serbia who also submitted a bid. However, the majority of teams and IIHF Councillors wanted to be the first World Championship ice hockey participants in the Ice House's first historical major international event and vist Australia's sporting capital, the City of Melbourne. With the Ice House being a world class venue, both the teams and Australian fans will be well entertained with 15 exciting games of ice hockey to determine a gold medal winner and promotion to Division I in the 2012."

More news and information to follow as plans get underway.

I've tried a few times to watch ice hockey, but just never seem to be able to see the damn puck! A pretty important prerequisite I would have thought.

I'm a Bruins fan, love the sport. It really captured my imagination in the late 90's and I got stuck right in around the time of the lock out. Thoroughly enjoyed watching Samsinov playing for Boston and made an effort to watch as any games on telly as possible.

I watched the playoffs, pre Canberra I was on edge watching us throw away the series - but that is the magic of the game it has the tension of soccer, the physicality of football and some real finesse and skill all crammed into a pretty tight space which makes a great spectacle. I agree with TCD though it is hard work following the play sometimes.

My aim to is to see some hockey in Washington, Boston and NYC later this season. OLD TIME HOCKEY!

I think it's one of those sports, where you have to anticipate where the puck will end up. Especially when you are watching the games on TV, being there live is a little different. I haven't been into any big stadiums to watch games, but smaller ones are like that.

I was in Edmonton earlier this year and the Oilers had a home game on the night I arrived.

My business associate I was visiting has season tickets but thought I would be too tired from the flight and gave that nights tickets away.

I am a huge hockey fan. I have been to quite a few NHL games and watch it religiously on television. When I was younger I was interested in playing but I just wasn't a good enough skater - so I played lacrosse instead.

Hawks take game one 6-5, was end to end stuff all game. Already seen GT's get pulled & poor officiating, going to be a superb series.

What do people think of the new Stanley Cup ad for this season?

Not one of the best ads, but not totally shit either.

The words used in the song suit the Stanley Cup, but i think it could've been more creative

Went to see Melbourne Ice on Saturday night @ the Icehouse. Great set up, reasonable standard game and some good action. I like what these guys are doing down there and will be getting along more often.

It's a sport I have an interest in having an interest in if that makes sense. Most of this is thanks to the EA games, as Ice Hockey is probably the most enjoyable sport to play on a gaming console.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

It is at Harbour Town behind what was the Big Wheel. Very nice facility.

Melbourne Ice games have been selling out, suggest that you prebook tickets and arrive early. Capacity is about 1500-2000 and the seats fill up real quick.
