Good luck and congratulations to Usman though. He probably won't play in the tests, but it is good experience for him to tour and get the feel of cricket at that level. It's a good news story for sure. And he is only 23, so he is a baby in cricketing age.

I guess with NSW losing so many players to the international scene for such a long time they have gone down the path of developing their youth such that they turn into Aus players which is probably to the detriment of their chances to win domestic competitions.

We (Victoria) have brought in players from other states who help us be very competitive in the domestic competitions, but we don't play our kids and we don't really develop Aus players. We are now at a point where our kids are looking elsewhere because they aren't getting in their minds a fair go.

I guess Cricket Victoria have shown with their decisions that winning domestic competitions is more important than getting Vic players into the Aus team.

Not a bad decision for mine, fantastic young talent who is proven at first class level and is a potential long term player. I agree with Mantis' point that if cricket Victoria were serious about having test match cricketers, more opportunities would be given to younger players, we have made the decision to chase trophies and cant complain when representation rolls around.

That's how I see it. All states recruit players but we seem most happy with players that will just serve the State rather than having the potential to play for Australia.

NSW, for example, made the hard calls on a few players like Bracken and Clark so that youngsters like Hazelwood could play where we chased after Damien Wright who is a decent to good shield cricketer but was never going to offer much more than a few games.

Is he a quick scorer? Just wondering what type of batsman he is in the mould of.

From the little I have seen of him he is more of a patient run scorer perhaps a more stylish version of Marcus North

Well they need to start trying players because the team is doing jack at the moment, already lost the one day series in the first 3 games, only one player performing with the bat each game and 2 of the games they werent even close to winning.

Including this one day series they have now lost to England in every form of the game in the last 12 months.

And if they use the resting players as an excuse I am going to vomit, if beating the old dart isnt important what the hell are they resting them for?

Missing three of our best four bowlers(plus one of them is a world class allrounder) is really hurting ATM.

I am not really too worried about the present ODI's or the recent 20/20 but I really hope that we can regain the ashes this summer. I couldn't stand losing to England again. Blah

Spinner Stephen O'Keefe called into Australia squad

Australia have called up left-arm spinner Stephen O'Keefe for the forthcoming series against Pakistan.

The 25-year-old comes in for the Twenty20 internationals and Test matches in England as a replacement for Nathan Hauritz.

Hauritz has returned to Australia to recover from a foot injury.

He debuted in 2005/6 yet has played just 8 first class games.

He has been playing for Aus A in their games against Sri Lanka which have been taking place in QLD over the past month. Took 7/35 and made 61 in one game. In his last outing he took 2/93 off 16 overs.

Our spinning stocks must be really shiful if we have to turn to this bloke.
