I really enjoyed the fight; thought he was probably down on points at the end of the second, but surprisingly looked the fresher of the two going into the last round.

Did you see the X-ray of Struve's jaw? Cracked right through.

Herb Dean has copped some flak over signalling Hunt to continue, but I don't see a problem really. Struve was still conscious/able to defend himself. No one at the time, except for Struve I guess, knew how badly injured he was. And he verbally tapped anyway. I say fair play all round.

How far can Hunt go you think? I have to admit I don't know heaps about him. Seems a likable fella though.

Also, since we're talking UFC, did anyone else see Uriah Hall's KO?

Hunt's record really hides what a great fighter he has been for a long time. Almost all of his losses are against guys who, at the end of their careers, could make a case for top-10 all time. He's a fighter whose strengths will not leave him quickly and whose weaknesses are diminishing (sub defence was a lot better against an accomplished BJJ guy in Struve). I think he could be top-5 by the end of the year.

As per Hall's knockout, that was just insane.

          Anyone remember this?

I was in Japan at the time. I think from memory Hunt was called into fight Silva for some guy who got sick. He had three days notice.
I've heard this move described variously as an atomic butt drop, and a yokozuna ass splash. Either way, it wouldn't tickle ( could do you a serious back injury if you were in guard and someone 120kg+ jumped on you.
One of my favorite memories of the UFC.

            Anyone see Jones Vs. Gustafsson?

One of the fights of the year. Certainly the best title fight I can think of. There was just so much riding on it being a good fight: Jones had question marks over whether he was actually a phenom or just used his size to bully smaller guys, and Gus had people saying that he hadn't fought anyone top quality and wasn't good enough for a title shot. And then they went and put on that fight that simply squashed all questions (including whether Jones could go to HW - which I think is now a no - and be a serious contender). I had it rounds 1 and 3 for Gus, 2,4, and 5 for Jones. To be honest, Gus was thirty seconds from winning the fourth round too before Jones landed the spinning elbow on top of Gus' head and beat him up for 30 seconds and pinched the round (and the belt, for that matter).

I remember telling my brother after I saw Gus fight for the first time that I'd seen the next LHW champ in action. My brother was doubtful, but I think I was vindicated and I think he has just as much chance in the inevitable rematch. Probably needs to do some more five round sparring, as he was gassed out in the fifth.

Anyway, what do you guys reckon?

            Also, some cool pics:

              Huge bump this one.

Have been back into UFC in a big way over the past few years, catching everything on Kayo on a Sunday as well as DWCS. We've had some good talent from Australia emerge and start to make an impact, none moreso that Volk.

If he can beat Islam next weekend, I think he has a hand of the GOAT status and its a result up there with Perkins at the Olympics, the Americas Cup and so forth.
